Surnames: Ramsey, Thompsen, Wilson Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Gk.2ADI/1144 Message Board Post: Last Rites Held for Mrs. Luella Thompsen Mrs. Luella F. Thompson was the daughter of J. H. and Nancy Ramsey. She was born on February 23rd, 1862, near Terra Haute, Indiana. Soon after this her parents moved to near Dedham in Carroll County, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. In May 1883 she was married to Isaac Thompson of Belle Plaine, Ia. To this union were born two sons, Justice who died in infancy and Orlando who now lives in Indiana Harbor, Indiana. Her husband died in April 1895 and she has cared for herself since then by economy and hard work. Of late years she has also cared for her granddaughter, making her home together with a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Wilson in Manning. In 1904 she was baptized by the Reverend Bennett and became a member of the M. E. church in Manning of which she has been an ardent devotee ever since. For several years her health has gradually been failing and in late summer she suffered a stroke of paralysis, which has been followed by one after another, and she quietly passed away Wednesday, January 29th, 1930, at the age of 67 years 11 months and 26 days. To mourn her passing she leaves three brothers, J. W. Ramsey of Alex, Oklahoma, John Ramsey of Estherville, Iowa; Charley Ramsey Sr. of Botna, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Wilson of Manning, Iowa, and her son Orlando Thompsen of Indiana Harbor, Indiana. She also leaves three granddaughters, Miss Ethel Thompsen of Manning, Iowa, and Genevieve and Shirley Thompsen of Indiana Harbor, Indiana, a number of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, January 31st, at the Methodist church, the Reverend Chas. C. Doyle officiating. Music was furnished by a quartet, composed of Mrs. Doyle, Mrs. J. A. Lewis, Professor Essbach, and Clifford Johnson, with Mrs. Harvey Wood as pianist. The Hymns sung were “Face to Face”, “Shall We Gather at the River” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” The pall bearers were six of her nephews: Charles, Paul, Edward, Lyle and Mayburn Ramsey. Interment was made at the Dedham cemetery where she is sleeping the eternal slumber at the side of her husband. “Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” (Clipping from unidentified newspaper. 1. Nancy A. Richey Ramsey
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Ramsey, Richey Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Gk.2ADI/1143 Message Board Post: Mrs. Nancy A. Ramsey, daughter of James and Jane Richey was born in Wayne Co. Ohio Aug. 25, 1834. In her early youth she united with the Christian church, but in 1887 she united with the M. E. church during the labors of Rev. T. S. Brown at the Hardie school house. She remained a loyal and consistent member of this church to the day of her death which occurred February 1, 1906, at the home of her son Chas. H. Ramsey, near Botna, Ia. She was married to James Hanford Ramsey in Osceola, Ohio, March 5, 1853. To them were born ten children, seven of whom are living. All but one of them were enabled to be present at her bed side at the time of her death. The son in Oklahoma being delayed on the way, arriving a few hours too late for the funeral. She was a faithful wife and mother and her children all hold her memory as a sacred possession. Everyone who knew her valued her as a kind friend and neighbor who sacrificed her own comfort to administer to the needs of others. Countless are the times she has gone to bring comfort and cheer to the sick and dying. “Mother Ramsey” was indeed a mother to everyone who was in need of help and good nursing in time of sickness. She was left a widow in March, 1900. Since that time she has made her home with her children waiting for the summons which finally came calling her to the heavenly home to which she expressed an earnest desire to go only a few hours before her death. For her was it indeed true that “to live in Christ, to die is gain.” Her body was taken to Dedham for burial beside her husband. The funeral services being conducted by Rev. Rink of the M. E. church. Card of Thanks – We wish to thank the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us during the illness and burial of our beloved mother, Mrs. Nancy A. Ramsey. Her Children.

    3. Thank you to those in the group who have assisted me in my quest to find out more about St. Angela Academy. With your help I might find out more than I thought possible!!! My next question is whether or not there were any county/city directories between the years of 1912 and 1918 or so. That would help me narrow possibly the years my grandfather lived there at the school and was custodian. Also I noticed online that there are Liechtenstein roots in Carroll. My great grandfather was born over there and came to America with his parents and five sibs in 1882. They however settled in Freeport, Illinois. BUT I have oodles of information about families from Liechtenstein and am more than happy to assist anyone if needed. Thanks again.... susan

I am trying definitively to determine the place of marriage. I presume it was in a Catholic church in Carroll, since her parents lived there and since her sister in 1910 was married in Carroll. Could some one confirm the marriage as occurring in Carroll and the correct spelling of her first name and the name of the church? Thanks. 2. Moen, Steve
    3. One of my "brick walls". In the Obituary of my GGrandfather (Erick Hanson Johnson), dated 8 Jun 1898, is the following: "Erick Johnson, of Kragero,[Chippewa County, MN] whose brother was murdered at Carroll last fall, died at his home ...." I would like to obtain any information on the murder that I can, in hopes it will give me some clues on my GGrandfather. Would anyone have access to newspapers of Carroll, or guide me in the right direction? I have to believe that this information would have been in the newspapers at that time. 3. The City of Carroll adopted a new procedure last year for dealing with cemetery plots. You should contact Debra Goetzinger, Deputy City Clerk at the City Clerk's office in Carroll. You can also try the sexton at the Carroll Cemetery. He has a book of owners of the cemetery plots.
