But just in case, we are attempting to find a JAMES LOUDENBACK who was suposedly born in Kentucky/Virginia in 1800 (Virginia was split into Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia during that period). We so far have not been able to find vital records on JAMES or his parents. I have search thousands of names on ship records leaving Germany to the US but have found no passangers with the name "LOUDENBACK". And, assuming that JAMES father was between 18-20 years old when JAMES was born I would think his father (if not born in the USA) would be a passager on a foreign ship between 1700-1800. JAMES had many children including JACOB who is in our family tree. Just wondered if you had anything on this family? In any case I am glad to have talked to another Loudenback. Jim Loudenback

They followed two older children who came in 1881 - John (who settled in Crawford County) and William (who settled in Texas). They lived in Carroll County at least until 1894, when Sophia died. Both are buried in the Arcadia Cemetery (Claus having died in 1916). Any information would be greatly appreciated, as I seem to be running into a brick wall with these two. Thank you.

[also where my gr grandparents were married] Did Maria Helena's husband, Henry Buelt, come from the Emsland area of Germany? [near Hanover] You may already have this information, but the following web site has a lot of information on German immigrants from the Emsland area, who originally settled in St Louis. I checked the site and there are two Hermsen's who were married in St Louis. Here is the url for their information: http://www.emslanders.com/he.htm#HERMSEN It lists two Hermsens, perhaps they are brothers or cousins of Maria Helena. Here is the information from the site: HERMSEN, Bernard Heinrich BORN: Oct 14, 1836, Lindloh (parish in Ruetenbrock) PARENTS: Stephen HERMSEN Thecla GERDES EMIGRATION: 1859 - arrived NY May 27, 1859 on the ship J Ahlers Gerhard HERMSEN 24, carpenter, Germany to US Berhard 22, carpenter and Gerhard Herman 21, carpenter Osnabrueck emigration index - Bernard Heinrich HERMSEN, born Oct 14, 1836 in Lindloh, son of Stephen HERMSEN and Thecla GERDES emigrated from Ruetenbrock in 1859 with cousin Herman HERMSEN MARRIED: unknown NOTES: Bernard Heinrich was witness at his brother Gerhard Hermsen's marriage in 1865 to Antonette Kunders. At present this is his only documented presence in St Louis. SOURCES: Bernard Heinrich's date and place of birth and parents' names were known from an entry for him in the emigration index. That information was then verified in Ruetenbrock parish records. HERMSEN, Gerhard Herman BORN: Nov 26, 1834, Lindloh (parish in Ruetenbrock) DIED: in St Louis, MO, buried Oct 7, 1909, age 74, in Calvary Cemetery, in the same lot with Antonette PARENTS: Stephen HERMSEN Thecla GERDES EMIGRATION: 1859 - arrived NY May 27, 1859 on the ship J Ahlers Gerhard HERMSEN 24, carpenter, Germany to US Berhard 22, carpenter and Gerhard Herman 21, carpenter his cousin's entry in emigration index: Gerhard Herman HERMSEN, born Aug 27, 1837, Lindloh, son of Gerhard Herman HERMSEN and Regina HASKAMP emigrated from Ruetenbrock in 1859 with cousins Bernard Heinrich and Gerhard Herman HERMSEN MARRIED: Antonette KUNDERS, widow of DECKMAN marriage: May 11, 1865, St Louis, MO SOURCES: Gerhard Herman's parents' names and his age (30) were known from his marriage record at Sts Peter and Paul parish. A sibling and cousin were known to have emigrated from Ruetenbrock so that parish's records were checked and a corresponding record found there also for Gerhard Herman. Perhaps you already have this information, but just thought I would send it in case it is helpful. This site has a lot of good information for Germans from the Emsland area. Barbara Salibi, author of this site, does have a contact in the Emsland area, who does have access to the Catholic church records in many of the Emsland parishes, and may be able to look for birth information for your Maria Helena. They had one son Bernard Joseph Buelt. She died soon after his birth. Living in St. Louis at the same time was a Gerhardt Hermen Hermsen. Could this connect to your Hermsens somehow? This has been a formidable brick wall as Henry Buld/Buelt soon remarried and had six more children, and memories of Marie Hermsen faded away. I found mention of the marriage in St. Louis Catholic Church marriage records.
