These pictures were left in my grandmother's attic after her death and many have already been idenitified as Wempe. I just recently returned from Seneca on my quest to get these pictures identified. Just to make sure the record is straight Clemons Augusta Buser married Anna Louis Stein. Clemons was the child of Peter Paul Buser and Mary Elizabeth Wempe. If you are interested in helping to identify these pictures please email me at katie221@bellsouth.net. I would also like to return pictures to owners or direct relatives. 1. Geling, Gehling, St. Mary's Church, Willey, Iowa
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Geling, Gehling Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Gk.2ADI/1282 Message Board Post: Translated From: Der Carroll Demokrat, Special 25th Anniversary Edition, Friday 29 September 1899 (Original in German) Willey and Pleasant Valley Township Johann Heinrich Geling Rector at Saint Mary's Church in Willey The Reverend Joh. H. Geling was born in Wessum, County Ahrhaus, Government District Muenster to brave and Christian parents. There he attended elementary school and received First Holy Communion in the village church. Then his parents traveled to America and settled in Festina, Winneshiek County, Iowa where the father pursued farming. The son worked part time with his father on the parents' farm and part time on various other farms until he was 21 years old. Then feeling in himself the high calling of the holy priesthood, he entered the priest seminary, where he surrendered himself with eagerness to his studies and completed the classical curriculum. Thereafter, he entered St. Joseph College where he studied Theology for one year. Then he turned to the Grand Seminary in Montreal Canada, an outstanding and renowned educational institution, where he once again for two years performed his studies and then attained the goal of his desire by being ordained a priest on 14 July 1884. On 16 July of the same year, the young pastor celebrated his first Mass in his dear hometown, Festina. At the moment, there was no position available there, so during this time he visited the Reverend Father Wegmann in Roselle and the present town of Willey. Soon thereafter he received the call to Festina where he should work as assistant priest with the Reverend Father Sauter. For three years he remained in the community, whereupon the Reverend Ar! chbishop named him as Rector of Saint Mary's Church in Willey. In the Fall of the same year, due to the eagerness of the young priest, the community was able to build itself a church school, and during the Winter months he himself participated in the instruction of the youngsters until Fall of the next year when the nuns came from La Crosse, Wisconsin. In the year 1895 the school was enlarged through the addition of a second wing. The church was built in the year 1882. In the year 1886, the Reverend Peter Hoffman arrived, who was the first Rector of the Saint Mary's community in Willey, and was from Christmas 1886 until September 1887. At that time the Reverend Father Geling took over the community. In the year 1893, the church was significantly enlarged, on which occasion three bells were also obtained. A second school building was constructed in the year 1895. There exist now three schoolrooms with 125 school children under the capable leadership of the esteemed Sisters of the Holy Franciscan Order of LaCrosse. In the year 1890, the Crucifixion Chapel was constructed; a second to the honor of the Suffering Mother in the year 1898. Both chapels resulted from the very skillful hand of the Reverend Father who certainly single-handedly took care of almost the entire interior ornamentation of the church. The Dear Reader can hardly imagine the artistic skill of this gentleman in vestments. Certainly should anyone come to the friendly town of Willey, they should not neglect to visit the splendid chapels and visit the interior of Saint Mary's Church. The exquisite pulpit, constructed in Gothic style, a beautiful baptismal font, confessionals as well as many other items dedicated to this holy place, endure due to the outstanding genius of this priest-artist. Notes: I translated this from anarticle in Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I kept the spellings as they were in the original article, but I think the name should be spelled "Gehling," although I am not certain, and the county in Germany is "Ahaus."

    1. Silent City Cemetery
    2. Hello all: Is there a Silent City cemetery in Carroll County? I have seen that same name in other counties but cannot locate one in Carroll County. From Iowa tombstone records online there is listed a William L. Stutsman with death date of 1928 - also his wife Emmoline is supposed to be buried there. I would like to have exact death date of possible or any info regarding this family. I have located him in the 1920 census in Washington State so not sure where he really died which makes it difficult to get a DC. Thank you for any help. Ahlive

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Gk.2ADI/129.152.159.202.503.504.2 Message Board Post: Robert I have sent the following message to an Author Debbie a farber and decided to send it to you because of the same name interest of Matthias Loudenback. If you are interested chating about this relationship let me know. It is possible that Matthias Louderback/Loudenback is an ancestor. However, if Matthias was born in 1749 then he would have been 51 years old when our JAMES LOUDENBACK was born in 1800 (US 1850 Illinois Census) and therefore probably not be JAMES's father. Also, according to the ship record SAMUEL 1739 , Johan David Loudinback who was 23 years of age at the time (thus born 1716) or 61 in 1800. If this is the same Johan then he Matthias could be his son (Johan would have been 33 at the time). The only other LOUDENBACKs sailing between 1700-1800 (based on my search of 145 ship records and 41,500 passangers) are ship Bilander Townshead 1737 - Peter Lauterbach; ship Samuel & Elizabeth - John Adam Loukenback age 24 (born 1716), John Henry Loukenback 18 (born 1722); and, John Garradt Loukenback 50 (born 1690); ship Townsend 1737- Conraed Lautrbach. By the way Murray Nichols, Carol Burton, and Marcia Washburn are cousins and may have contacted you about this same individual. Would you mind letting me know if you have had communication with any of them? According to Murray Nichols, Joseph Loudenback (born 1793 - Virginia) was the son of Mathias and Magdalena Loudenback. There is another record that shows that Eve (born 1794) and Sarah (born 1796) were daughters of Mathias. Matthias had two boys who could, however, be the father of our JAMES. David born 1778-Vir (22 years old at time of JAMES birth) and Philip born 1782 (18 years old at time of JAMES birth). If you have any vital data on DAVID and PHILIP I sure woud like to have a copy. Please contact me at your convience to discuss this possible tie in our family tree.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Gk.2ADI/129.152.159.202.503.504.1 Message Board Post: Is this Carol Burton by chance. If not the following message is regarding a JAMES LOUDENBACK. It appears that you might be from another branch of the Loudenback family. But just in case, we are attempting to find a JAMES LOUDENBACK who was suposedly born in Kentucky/Virginia in 1800 (Virginia was split into Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia during that period). We so far have not been able to find vital records on JAMES or his parents. I have search thousands of names on ship records leaving Germany to the US but have found no passangers with the name "LOUDENBACK". And, assuming that JAMES father was between 18-20 years old when JAMES was born I would think his father (if not born in the USA) would be a passager on a foreign ship between 1700-1800. JAMES had many children including JACOB who is in our family tree. Just wondered if you had anything on this family? In any case I am glad to have talked to another Loudenback. Jim Loudenback
