This Matilda, was my grandfather, Edwin E. Hupp' sister. All I know about this family is there were 8 siblings: Edwin, Roy, Bus, Jack, Lucy, Minnie, Mattie, and Marion. I hope this can help. If this is the same line, could you let me know? My grandfather died way before I was born and I know nothing about his family.

My name is Melissa Beisch and I was wondering if anybody could help me out with more information on the families of Peter and Mary (Daheling) Beisch and his son Peter Cornelius and Agnes Barbara (Berger) Beisch, all of whom are buried in the Maple River cemetery. Peter C. Beisch is my great grandfather. Babcock -- found in History of Green and Carroll Counties (IA), Published in 1887, p.540 of Carroll County section of book. Charles W. Babcock, a successful agriculturist of Carroll County, engaged in farming and stock-raising in Warren Township, was born in Kane County, Illinois, August 6, 1853, a son of Chester and Sarah (Profert) Babcock [sic -- JP, should be Probert]. His parents were natives of the State of New York, coming to Carroll County, Iowa, in 1884, where they still reside. They had a family of four sons, of whom Charles W. was the second. He grew to manhood on the home farm in his native county, receiving his education in the district schools of his neighborhood. He was reared a farmer and has made that the principal avocation of his life. At the age of twenty-one years he began farming his father’s farm, which he continued one year. In 1860 his father moved to Clinton County, where he resided till he came to Carroll County. Charles W. Babcock was married April 12, 1877, to Miss Margaret V. Smith, a native of Iowa, born in Jackson County March 31, 1853, a daughter of ! J.G. and Lucy Smith who were born in the State of Kentucky, but are now residents of Iowa. They are the parents of four children -- Arthur L., born August 6, 1878 [sic -- CA death records list DOB as 8/6/1877 -- JP]; Sadie M., March 1, 1880; Ernest S., October 12, 1882, and Clarence, August 25, 1885. Mr. Babcock has been successful in his farming and stock-raising and is now making a specialty of raising short-horn cattle. He has a large and substantial residence on section 20, Warren Township, and excellent farm buildings, his residence being within a mile of Manning. He is the owner of 320 acres, 160 on sections 19, 20, 29 and 30, Warren Township, and the remainder in Audubon County, Lincoln Township. In politics he votes the Republican ticket.

He was born Johann Caspar Reineke in Steinheim, Westphalia, Germany. He came to the United States around 1865, and went by “John”. I have made some corrections to the spellings. For example, the paper misspelled the last name as “Reincke.” Other additions/corrections are in brackets. Death of John Reineke John Reineke passed away Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jos. Schmidt [should be spelled Schmitt], south of Carroll, after an illness of four months, the cause of death being Bright’s disease and diabetes. Mr. Reineke was born at Steinheim, Westphalen, Germany, June 23, 1839 and died Saturday, October 7, 1916. In 1869 he was married to Mary Spieker at Newton, Iowa. There they lived until 1876, when they moved to a farm south of Carroll. They remained there until five years ago, when they moved to Carroll to the home they purchased at 410 south Adam[s] Street. On December 18, 1914 his wife died and since then Mr. Reineke has made his home with his children. Of the ten children born, eight survive to mourn their father. John and Anton pr[e]ceded him in death, July 1913. The surviving children are: Mrs. Joseph Schmidt [or Schmitt], Carroll; Joseph and Fred [Reineke], Randolph, Nebraska; Mrs. Nic. Eltgroth, Osakis, Minnesota; William [Reineke], Dedham; Mrs. Joseph Brincks, Maple River; Mrs. John B. Brincks, Willey; and Matthew [Reineke] of Carroll. He also leaves three sisters: Mrs. Hermann Saak, Baxter, Iowa; Mrs. Anton Spieker, Carroll; and Mrs. Anton Riesenberg, Carroll; and thirty-one grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday morning from S[aints] Peter and Paul Church, of which he was a member. Mr. Reineke was a good-hearted, generous minded man, a true neighbor and friend and when in good health, very faithful to his church duties. He will be missed not only by his children, b[ut] by many dear friends.

Sigler, 82, died Wednesday at Queen of the Valley Hospital. [that's in Napa] A native of GLIDDEN, IOWA, he worked as an electrical engineer for many years, retiring in 1984 from Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Mr. Sigler is survived by two sons, Kevin Patrick of Suisun and Farrell Sanford of Napa; two daughters, Leslie Leah Oxford of Suisun and Roslyn Ann Dunsmore of Napa; one sister, Marion Whetsel of Grand Prairie, Texas and nine grandchildren. He was precedeased by his wife, Margaret Mary. Friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Service, 623 Coombs Street, with Pastor Bill Walden of Cornerstone Ministries officiating.
