I have a cousin who is willing to go to Calhoun County for me and get some obits. These would be for the 1880-1930 time period. Most of these family members were from Manson or Rockwell. Where should I send him? Is there a historical society or library? The families I am researching are: Lowe, Condron, Van Horne, Jack, Smith, and Stonebraker. Thank you for your help. Linda Hansen

I was just trying to be helpful because German names sometimes throw people for a loop. So many people have been kind since I've started researching and I just feel like I need to be too. It repays the kindness of all those people! Good luck in your search!

I don't know. Dads middle name is Reynold. He told me clues to his heritage is that of Daniel Webster. And I think that has something to do with a relative, who told me a list of names and Reynolds was one of them. About a hundred names. Perhaps from Ma. or Penn. Revolution [or something] or charlemayne. Also german and british were governed by same royal families at one time. I am wondering though, about your millers. Where are yours from? I just posted something new and now remember that I forgot to post the name Mueller on it also. Mich. Mueller. Suppose it is Michael. From Kovahl. the german way was Kofahl. Bargmoor was Barckmohr

Winter is an English name, at least my Winter folks are English, but it is also a German name. I suspect the folks that appear in English records as Vinter/s are actually Winter/s as the W is pronounced V in German. My Krohns were definitely Prussian, though. What Reynolds are you looking for? I routinely pull information on all my surnames even if I'm positive they aren't mine. I might have a little informaiton that can help. Susan

My mother was a Krietemeyer but I noticed it spelled KRIETEMIER on a vintage photo earlier today. My grandmother was a Kracht (2 sisters Anna & Helena and 3 brothers, Otto, Daniel and John) their mother was a Schulz. Many of this family still live or once lived in Iowa. Many of the old photos I have are from Hampton Iowa. Is this anywhere near Calhoun? I think the name has changed spellings and that is why I can't find anything on main searches like the Census. Also, my grandmother's father was named Christian Kracht and his father went by the same name. This, my gg grandfather Christian Frederick Kracht was married twice. His first marriage to Elizabeth Doerner they had 8 children of which one was Louisa (born 6-28-1887) and Gottlieb (born 5-7-1881). My g grandfather was born of his second marriage. Could these be related? Please email me and let me know what you think. Thanks!
