The first is part of a story about a battle over the location of the county court house between West Waterloo and Cedar Falls (which combined with East Waterloo). "Many years later when the late Emmons Johnson was a prominent candidate for congress, Cedar Falls and East Waterloo defeated him. They came here, most of them in covered wagons, or on foot as my father came, without money, but with a determination to succeed. They were men of deep feeling. It took many years to overcome the passions aroused by the county seat fight." From this I assume that Emmons Johnson was from West Waterloo. This is the second reference: "Nov. 18, '70, Henry Johnson opens grocery."
