Bartlett Stone, 67 years old, and his son-in-law Chas.H. Burns had a desperate fight, the result of a family feud. The young man was struck over the head with a stove poker, and in the death struggle that followed, succeeded in drawing a revolver and shooting the old man four times, the last shot reaching a vital spot. During the struggle in which blood flowed freely from both parties, the young wife with a babe at her breast, followed the men about the room and fired two shots in an endeavor to kill her husband, but without effect. October 19, 1904 No. 10 Col. 1 Charles Burns on trial at Waterloo last week was convicted of the murder of Bartlett Stone.
