    3. CONTACT: Al Jensen, al@familyhistoryradio.com For Immediate Release: Family History Radio announces eGenConference The first global Genealogy Conference offered on the Internet Scheduled for June 10-12, 2003 Salt Lake City, Utah – (February 18, 2003) Family History Radio, LLC (www familyhistoryradio.com) announced today the debut of the first Internet based genealogy conference, eGenConference. Scheduled to be online from June 10-12, the conference will be sponsored by Genealogy.com (www.genealogy com), Genealogy Research Associates (www.graonline.com) and the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) (www.fgs.org ). Open to the general public, the conference full registration will only cost 69.95 for the entire event Karen Clifford, President of Genealogical Research Associates Inc. and curriculum director of the Family History Radio Genealogy School is the program director for eGenConference. “eGenConference will bring together leaders from the genealogy industry from all over the world to share their expertise,” said Clifford. “The conference will provide professional and amateur genealogists alike the opportunity to learn about the latest new products, research tips and much more – all from the convenience of their home.” “The Federation of Genealogical Societies is very excited about being part of the first Internet Genealogical Conference and feels that it will help us in meeting our goal of providing services for our member societies and their individual members. Every opportunity to further education in the community grows the community as a whole,” said Dean J. Hunter, President of the Federation of Genealogical Societies. eGenConference is a virtual genealogy conference which offers benefits unique to the world wide web. Imagine strolling through exhibit areas without aching feet and learning from proven genealogy instructors without the worries of long delays at airports, lost luggage, or room cancellations. Conducted entirely on the Internet, the June 10-12, 2003 conference will feature genealogy speakers and presenters, round table discussions with industry professionals, exhibitors, and Genealogy School social events, not to mention a virtual store with family history related products and services For those who cannot participate in the live events, the conference will remain open with archived content for an additional 30 days. During the live and near-live presentations, participants from all over the world will be able to ask questions via email as well as listen to the presentation and view visual presentations using the Internet. . “We have found that people throughout the world want to attend genealogy conferences; however the cost of participation, travel and time, prohibit them from going. This conference will provide an opportunity for these people to attend at their convenience for a very moderate price from their own home,” states Al Jensen, President of Family History Radio. In addition to the presentations, eGenConference will also have a virtual exhibit area where participants can visit virtual booths, view and demo products and purchase items online. There will be rooms to pick up press materials, view presentations and obtain literature. There will be an online school called “The Genealogy School” where participants can take lessons on a variety of genealogy topics. During the conference visitors can visit the eGenConference Virtual Social Hall where they can interact with other genealogists, visit discussion rooms on special topics of interest and learn more about genealogy societies, products and services. "We are very excited to participate as a major sponsor for eGenConference and to reach out to a worldwide genealogy audience. The conference offers participants the opportunity to share in the wealth of information available only at major genealogy conferences, which up to this time have realized only limited audiences due to travel expenses. I am sure that the benefit to the genealogy community will be felt for years to come,” said Rob Armstrong, Sr. Vice President and General Manager, Genealogy.com. Mr. gr. grandmother was Wilhelmina Zwanziger. She came to Kansas with her Mother and Stepfather in about 1852. A family letter says she was born in Munich or Nuremberg and that her father died before she was born. The letter says she was the youngest of seven children, six girls and one brother. I know the brother's name was Herman but do not know any of the sisters names. Her Mother remarried a man by the name of TROUTS. He was from Saxony and took the family to Saxony for a while and then brought them to American when Wilhelmina was 14. I'm not sure when the family came to live in Kansas but the letter says the family went to New Ulm, MN and then it appears the stepfather died and the kids were on their own. The letter says Wilhelmina went to live with a family, he can't remember the name, except the woman of the family was named "Viola". The letter says this family lived in St. Louis. Wilhelmina married James Benjamin Turrittin in L! awrence, Kansas in May 1858. She named one of her daughters Ida Viola and Ida Viola Turrittin is my grandmother. Does any of the information you have mention any of these people? I'm most anxious to make some connection with descendants of Wilhelmina's siblings. I have a wonderful picture taken of Wilhelmina in St. Louis in December 1864 that I would be willing to share, if anyone is interested. Donna Barnickol

    1. Re: Probate records - Black Hawk County
    2. Susan, I had a very difficult naming problem, I had found a lovely family, that I knew was the right one, but the children were all named some strange names no one ever heard of. I sent for the probate packet, for their father, dated 1899, and it gave the names of the children as I knew them, plus who they were married to , and there they lived. Example: (My dearly beloved son, William Charles, and his wife Barbara living in St. Louis, MO.) I cannot tell you how much help it was to my research. It cost about $20.00, but was well worth it. Took about a month to receive it. As far as your other question regarding your mother getting the copies I cannot help. My advise is always go with the land records and get the probate file. Good Luck, Marie in Florida

I live across the country, so I can either write for the records or send my reluctant mother (who lives an hour from Waterloo) to the courthouse. Would she be able to get them right away or have to return? Could she copy them herself, saving expenses? One of the probate files could be quite large. I'm not sure how this works, so advice is greatfully accepted! Thanks.
