To all who helped me with looking up John and Anna BECKER in the iowa censuses, I offer a belated "Thank You." My husband is in the hospital and I spend a lot of time there. I feel sure that the Beckers you found in Ramsey Township, Kossuth County is the correct family. It seems like, if Anna did become naturalized on her own, it was in Kossuth County. I know that women usually became a citizen upon their husband doing so, but I have heard of some doing it on their own. They married in LeMars, Plymouth County in 1897. I have been told that Anna came by herself to America as an older teenager. I will write to the County Clerk in Kossuth County to try to get a naturalization record. I would really like to find where she was born - her marriage license says Heinen, Sillesia, but since I can find no Heinen in Silesia but do in West Prussia, I am baffled. Someone with her mother's maiden name HETTWER shows Silesia in one place and Prussia in another. Anna and John married in the Catholic Church in LeMars, but the Diocese that serves Heinen has no record of the family. She might have converted to Catholicism. Any ideas? Thank you again for your past help. Florence, I found this family in Ramsey, Kossuth County Iowa. I think it's a match. John, 45, Anna, 43, Joes, 11, Mary, 11, Anton, 8, Elbert, 6, Margaret, 4, and John, 3. The kids were all born in Iowa. John and Anna in Germany. They'd been married 13 years and she had 7 children and 6 are living. John came to the US in 1896 and is Naturalized. Anna came the the US in 1889. Joseph and Mary must have been twins.
