Back in my early days of trying to do too much in a day and only connecting dots, I was not as thorough as I have now become, after 21 years of researching - maybe now I am a bit too picky. Anyway, I am now finding things I should have questioned in those early days .... I hope that this is the last one I find, but ???? I do appreciate your help; I have copied the attached obit over to my computer and after opening it and making a few adjustments, I can read it just fine - no problem at all. Thank you - I am always helping other Macks find their line(s), so the more accurate I can be, the better for us all...

Mack (W. Fred Mack aka William Fred Mack). I think it came from the Waterloo Evening Courier (?) page 10: the date written on it by (?) wrote: "Courier, 4/8/29" HOWEVER: cemetery records for him (Fairview Cemetery) state: "William Mack, age 67 Death 4/17/1929"; at least this is what was written in a letter dated 1991 from Mr. Knipp (caretaker?) to me, at the cemetery when I wrote to him in 1991. So I would appreciate it if someone could please check this newspaper to see what the actual date of it was.... did he die on the 7th or 17th of April, 1929; the newspaper states that he "died yesterday".

He died shortly after midnight on the 9th after a 3 week illness. Probably no autopsy was done....I just checked with the Elmwood Cemetery manager and he siad that Joseph was buried on December 10, 1924 in a single lot which had been puirchased on December 8, 1924. He also checked and found that a Phebe Hoffman was buried in 1895, no month or day on the record, in a separate section. Hope this helps you out.

Surnames: Hoffman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vk.2ADE/1774 Message Board Post: If someone has access to the Waterloo Courier for Dec 1924, could you please double check a date for me? Many years ago I received a copy of an obit for Joseph M. Hoffman, 1st obit listed under 'MORTUARY" ( I have no idea of what page of column) and written in pencil by the sender (I cannot recall who) is "Waterloo Courier Dec 9, 1924" but now in re-reading it to update/correct my database something is amiss in the dates. He died on the day of the obit Dec. 9, 1924, (according to my date calculator - Tuesday) and was going to be buried on Wednesday (no date) BUT: was he buried the next day with no time for autopsy, embalming, etc??? or was it the following Wednesday of the next week? He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, funeral home was O'Keefe & Towne. To make things even more confusing: A copy of the "Record of Deaths - Blackhawk County" also sent shows he died on the 12th of Dec 1924. When did this man die and when was he buried????? Since the obit says he died "to! day at his home" the Courier must have been an evening paper...????

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Vk.2ADE/137.890.2 Message Board Post: Marcus Knapp information. While doing some genealogy today and while looking through microfilms of the Des Moines Register, I ran across a little story about a Marcus L. and Phoebe Knapp. This was a story submitted by a free-lance write and submitted to the Des Moines Register. The story concerned the Spring of 1851 when Marcus Knapp came to the Cedar Falls area in Black Hawk County, Iowa, with his parents, fromLiberty County, Ohio. Phoebe died on October 6, 1852 after giving birth to a child, who also died, a few months later. If anyone is related to this family, I can give you the details and perhaps email you a copy of the microfilm story from the Des Moines Register, if you so desire a copy. This story was published on February 12, 1978.
