Her parents are shown as Alfred Suggs VanCleave and Catherine Donahoo. I can go up the VanCleave branch pretty good but I get deadends on Catherine Donahoo on each search; my husband and I did go to Comanche, Texas this past year and found numerous grave sites at Indian Creek Cemetery as well as Stag Creek Cemetery but still no leads --- any help you may be able to give would be greatly appreciated!! thank you, Gloria Vordenbaum

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vk.2ADE/1283.2 Message Board Post: The 1930 Federal Census for Black Hawk County, Iowa showed that Hiram and Nellie Vaughn, both 71 were living on Linnwood Avenue with son, Robert M., age 46 and two grandchildren, Hiram and Mildred Hurley, age 24 and 23, respectively. Robert Vaughn was still single. Hiram Hurley was probably divorced as he is coded “D”. Mildred Hurley was single. Hiram and Mildred’s parents were born in Iowa. The 1920 Federal Census for Iowa showed Walter P. Hurley, 37 with wife, Estelle living in Clarke County, IA and Walter H. Hurley, age 49 with wife living in Wapello County, IA. Found Hiram and Nellie Vaughn, both age 62 with Robert, age 37 but no grandchildren or other family members living on Linnwood Avenue in Black Hawk County, Iowa. STEVEN

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vk.2ADE/1283.1 Message Board Post: Kim -- I do not have the Hurley or Heyburger in my family but the name of Hurley is familiar because my mom (Clarece Webber)attended Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Waterloo with Mary Ann Hurley. They graduated in 1952. She remembered Arlene Hurley vaguely. I believe Arlene attended the school with my aunt. She believed Mary Ann’s cousins, Connie and Annette Daly attended the same school. My mom mentioned Louanne Heyburger and she was not sure if Louanne was Mary Ann’s aunt. Thus, you may find more information about the Hurley and Heyburger through the Sacred Heart High School and maybe the church. You may try to contact St. John Catholic church. I believe the Hurley attended the school when they were young. You may as well as find more information on Robert Eugene through the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, only local newspaper if he died in Waterloo or in Black Hawk County. Wish I could help you more. 1. ESTEY Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of E.H. ESTEY of Waterloo, Iowa which was taken at the W.H. Monroe Studio in Fayette, Iowa. Noted on the photograph in addition to his name and hometown is "Lawyer" and "Upper Iowa University Class of 1893" leading me to believe that this photograph may have been taken on the occasion of his graduation. I'm hoping to be able to find someone from his family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Wilson, Hartman(n), Mendenhall, Bartlett, Sumner, Caldwell, Gregory Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vk.2ADE/1282 Message Board Post: Since I’ve started helping people with the Freedom of Information Act info in early November, I have been virtually swamped with requests. I’ve had over 1,100 requests for it, just about 200 really, really nice responsive letters and emails in response (which is a nice surprise, most people just get the info and move on), about 350 requests for additional help via email and snail mail and another 87+ who let me know they’ve found the info they’ve been looking for with the additional help. Also, a total of 9 people sent me vile, nasty, swearing emails about how I shouldn’t be helping people like this on rootsweb. But they’re obviously a sorry lot so I don’t pay them any mind. *** So, I’m happy to report that for the $7.00 for paper, copying, staples, large envelope and postage costs, it’s well worth it! The Freedom of Information Act is a tool that is available to everyone. The request is free but it can be very confusing. You have to know where to send it, you have to have the right request form, a properly worded letter, you have to know what type of information they need to get you what you are looking for. You cannot just send in a generic "find this" request. I found a way to use FOIA in genealogy to request records that actually moves your search along. In my every day legal work I use the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to acquire records from all areas. I will send you the forms (both State and Federal), sample request letters, what you need to send in terms of specifics, if you have them, or if not, some suggestions on where and how to find them. I have compiled a list of each State’s statutes and codes that you will need to reformat the request form for your particular State or the State you are sending the request to. I have included some specific searching directions and examples that may help you. For those of us who have been unable to get to an out-of-town location or to afford a researcher it's great. My email contact is or genealogyprincess@hotmail.com not the email listed on this posting. Or simply follow the directions below! I will be happy to help anyone with any additional information or reformatting the forms for other states, other data requests, etc. Any other requests for help, I will send a form. I have to request $6.58 for paper, copying, staples, large envelope and postage costs. This package of information is 26+ pages (and growing) -- and I had no idea this would be responded to in such huge numbers (!!). So, if you*re interested, send $7.00 in cash or check [Kathy Lawler] to Genealogy Princess, 20757 Camden Square, #210, Lathrup Village, MI 48076 or use my Paypal address [checking] for $7.00 to kathlee13@yahoo.com or genealogyprincess@hotmail.com. Either way, don’t forget your address!! I will send you the information the very day I receive your address and funds. Lastly, additional information, new ways I can come up with to use FOIA will be sent to you free of charge and I*ll also be happy to answer any questions you may have. Lastly, I have a larger bunch of information in my "FOIA IN GENEALOGY WORKS! on Ebay. Check that out! Thanks! Kathleen Lawler

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Vk.2ADE/484.1 Message Board Post: Mildred Heding (Mrs. Jahn Thompson) was a sister to my Gr. Grandfather, William Henry Heding. Their parents were John Quincy Heding and Sarah Jane Haflich. There were 4 more siblings: Zoe, Zelia, Albert, John B., and another I can't remember. John Q's parents were William Wellington and Emily (Emery) Heding who came from Wisconsin from N.Y. We think William's parents were David Hedding and Deborah Terry. David also had a second wife, Wilthea Story. We believe he had 3 children with his first marriage and 6 or 7 with the second. David is our brick wall. He was born in Pa. and his children were born in NY around Orange, Cayaugua, and Clinton Cos. (Little Valley comes to mind). William came to Wis. in 1854 with 3 children (John Q., Elizabeth and one other son. They had a 4th child, David in Wis. They first lived in Dane Co and then went to BadAxe now Vernon Co living in the readsville and Hillsboro area and later family members lived in Union Center in Juneau Co. I put my paperwork away for christmas and to have a break from all the ancestors. Will dig it out soon and re-organize Hope this helps, Sandy

    3. It would be very helpful to have an indication of the list which sends these messages before one is opened. There are so many undesirable messages being sent that many people are deleting messages when they do not recognize the sender. I almost deleted this and it would have been unfortunate if it had been from someone with whom I could have shared information. Yesterday, I received a message I wish I had deleted immediately. The sender sounded very friendly but the message was grossly pornographic.
