Hello, Sue! I'm one of the directors of the Benton County Historical Society, and have just accessed your webpage for the first time. Outstanding job! I knew of your project through Trudi Evans, but hadn't any luck finding it from the information you had given her, and had to work through four of the major search engines until I found it. The first thing I'd like to note is that the BCHS has changed their research hours from Friday to Wednesday, still 1-4. Secondly, I'd be willing to volunteer to be the e-mail contact for the BCHS until such time as we establish our own account. Please have your readers put "BCHS Research" in the subject line so I can have Eudora filters direct the message appropriately. In general, I'd also be willing to answer specific, focussed, queries concerning our holdings, or their contents, (a single name in a single source type of thing) as a courtesy to all. However, more elaborate questions involving more than a few minutes of time I'd feel obligated to turn over to the Research Committee, who would probably ask for a donation. They've just started active work again after a hiatus for most of the year for reorganization and relocation within the Horridge House, and I don't believe they've established any fixed fee structure as of yet. I wish we were able to respond to all requests without charge, but we are an all-volunteer organization that is perennially short on funds. I hope that we will also be able to make more materials available to you to put on the web. I have a scanner here at home that I'm just learning to use, and am intending on getting some decent OCR software for it soon. We have started the project of putting our cemetery files into a computer database, and I may be able to send you those files--there is here, however, a question of approval by the Board of Directors, the issue being whether or not there should be a charge for this material, given the massive amount of volunteer effort that went into the original transcriptions and the subsequent effort of typing it all into the database. As you'll see, I've signed up for the mailing list and sent a copy of this message there. I look forward to working with you on this fine project. Thom Carlson
