    3. J(ohann) Martin KÖHL b. 1787 in Eichstettin, Baden, d. 1869 in Fremont Twp., Benton Co., Iowa. Married to: Catharina SCHMIDT (b. 1788 in Bahlingen, Baden, d. 1879 in Fremont Twp. They arrived in US ca. April 1856 New Orleans. They were buried on the family homestead (owned by daughter and son-in-law), now known as Raetz Cemetary, 2 mi west of Atkins. I have been unable to find church records of the burial of Martin and Catharina at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. Many of their descendants were with the New Jerusalem church. Did that church keep a burial register? Where could I find it? The children are believed to be: 1. Johann Martin KÖHL (1812 - 1814). 2. Catharina KÖHL (1814 - Unknown). 3. Anna Marie KÖHL (1817 - 1871) Arrived in US on 23 March 1857 at New York, on "Mercury" from Havre, with her husband, George ENGEL (b. 1816 in Friesenheim, Baden, d. 1870), and most of their children. The Engel family settled a few miles East of the Koehls, s. 17 in Clinton Twp., Linn Co. Descendants include HUBER, KIMM, KRAHLING, RINDERSKNECHT, SAHA, SCHIRM, TIEDE, WENDEL, many of whom lived in Benton County. 4. Maria Magdalena KÖHL (1819 - 1894). Anna married Jacob GASSER (1819 - 1888). Descendants include SCHLOTTERBACK, RAETZ. 5. George Jacob KÖHL (1823 - 1877). Married to Anna Maria ACKERSMANN (1829 - Unknown). This family may have moved on to South Dokota. 6. Anna Barbara KÖHL (1827 - 1884). Married to Peter FRITZ (1824 - 1902). Descendants include GERBER, LENSCH. I am trying to locate descendants of any of the above. Am also interested in any photos of these individuals of which I could get negatives or scanned copies made.
