Mary Benton County, IAGenWeb Project On the above Benton County IAGenWeb Project, where I think you were at, go farther down and you will find OBITUARIES & CEMETERIES, below that you will find "Cemetery index" and "Cemetery locations + maps". The "location + maps" will locate the cemetery for you-- 1/2 mile west of Atkins and then 1/2 mile south. The "cemetery index" lists St Stephens which my wife and I inputed the tombstone information. There is a Martin Rinderknecht born in 1899 but none around 1814. There is a Johan born in 1817. Hope this can be of some help. I am related to some of the Rinderknechts and have a lot of relation buried in that cemetery. My wife and I both attended St Stephens Church as children and grew up in that area. Good luck on your geneolgy project. If I can be of further help, let me know. Hank

    3. Hi Benton County, Does anyone have any information about St Steph Cemetery.? It may be around Fremont Twp, in Benton Co or possibly in Waubeek Twp in Linn Co. I found mention of this cemetery while researching the Rinderknecht name in the book, German Settlers of Iowa by Margaret Krug Palen. The book mentions a Karl Rinderknecht who in 1861 came to Waubeek, Iowa where his Uncle Martin Rinderknecht lived. Karl and several other Rinderknechts are buried in St Steph. Cemetery. In checking at the library, I cannot find any record of this cemetery. Does anyone know where it is? My ancestor is Martin RINDERKNECHT b abt 1814 in Germany. Martin filed a Declaration Oath for citizenship May 31, 1860 in Linn Co., was a blacksmith and lived in Linn Co. His daughter, Christena was born 25 Oct 1865 and grew up in Palo Iowa. I think Martin died sometime between 1870 and the 1880 census. I cannot find any records of death, or in the cemeteries that are in Linn Co Library and was hoping maybe my Martin is buried in St Steph. Christena's obituary in 1933 mentions a brother, Joe Rinderknecht of Moreland Kansas, and sisters, Carrie Brenmer of Atlantic and Mary Lightbody of Mason City. If anybody knows about these people, please contact me. I would love any information or ideas that you might have. Thank you Mary kmary@aol.com

TRIPP Sept 7, 1865 Thompson AVERY married Jemima TRIPP Jan 20, 1863 Can anyone tell me for fact that the William H AVERY above who married Hattie Hinsdale in 1862, is the same William H AVERY who married Sarah A Tripp in 1865???? Also, can anyone tell me what AVERY family, this William H AVERY comes from? He was born in NY about 1840. Went to Illinois and was in the 1860 Somonauk Township, Sandwich P.O Census listed as Farm Hand with the Joseph Latham Family. Was he related to the Latham family? He then went into the Civil War from Somonauk, and when he got out in 1865, married Sarah A Tripp in Kendall Co. There were several Sarah Tripps at that time also. I believe he married the Sarah Tripp who was the daughter of Benjamin and Jemima TRIPP who were in La Salle Co in 1850 Census and the Kendall Co Little Rock Census in 1860. I believe Benjamin Tripp died and Jemima married Thompson AVERY in 1863. Is Thompson AVERY the father of William H AVERY??? They all ended up in Benton Co Iowa after 1868 and are all buried together in the Mt Auburn Ia Cemetery there. Can anyone please offer any info on these facts?? I am having a terrible time tracing this William H AVERY further until I can find his parents names. William H AVERY lived in Benton Co Ia Cedar Township Section 25 In the meantime, hope this info has helped someone else out also. PWeber3402@aol.com

    3. Hi Thom and Pam, Shoot! I must be the new kid on the block! I welcomed Thom but didn't post it back to the list! We're always please and excited to have new research data added to the Benton County IAGenWeb site and look forward to the contributions of the Benton County Historical Society! In the mean time...several people have been transcribing different things for the Benton site. Kate Poole has dedicated her time to transcribing **ALL** of the Benton County 1878 Biographies! What a big job! Hank Rathje is about to submit his completed project of the St.Stephens Cemetery! Kent Wayson is working on the Kisling Cemetery and has already submitted a good deal of data! Dick Manley is doing a wonderful job with the Urbana History! So much good information and lots of names! The newest submission isn't online yet, but will be ASAP! Beverly Peterson has transcribed the names of the 1928 Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Vinton, Iowa. All of these projects are huge undertakings for single Benton County researchers. I appreciate your hard work and dedication! Thanks for keeping me busy! :) (and out of trouble!) -- Sue
