He was united in marriage to Vera Williams on November 10, 1934. To their union, four children were born: Ronald, Richard, Sandra and Harvey J. (Chip). He farmed in the Postville area for 23 years. Moving to Postville, he operated a sand and gravel business for 18 years. Baptized and confirmed at the Monona Lutheran Church, he was received as a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Postville in 1946 by Pastor Ludwig. He served two terms as a member of the church council. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margarite and Marie, a brother, Harold, and two granddaughters, Hope and Holly Deering. He is survived by his wife, Vera, Postville; three sons, Ronald, of Cheney, Washington; Richard, of Yakima, Washington, and Harvey J. (Chip), of Lone Tree, Iowa; a daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Robert Deering), Postville; a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Giles Blietz), McGregor, Iowa; seven grandsons and one granddaughter.
