Surnames: Madaus, Schmidt Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Tk.2ADE/2387 Message Board Post: Rites Held For Carl Madaus Carl Frederick Madaus, the son of Henry Madaus and his wife Sophie Schmidt Madaus, was born in Hamburg, Germany on January 25, l876. He was baptized on July 17, 1876 and confirmed on March 25, 1890 in Germany. He came from Germany to the United States in 1890, and went to live in the home of his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John Schmidt in Postville. He made his home with them and took care of them until their death. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister, all in Germany. He had been in ill health for a number of years, and died at the Fritzee Nursing Home in Nashua on April 18, 1962 at the age of 86 years, two months and 24 days. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville and a member 0f he International Order of Odd Fellows. Funeral services were conducted on April 21, 1962 at the Schutte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles E. Witt officiating. Burial was in the. Postville cemetery.
