Brooks Passes Away Friday Mrs. W. W. Brooks, 74, who with Mr. Brooks had been making her home with her son-In-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray R. Douglass the past winter, passed away Friday following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held in the family home in Corning Monday afternoon and interment was in the Corning cemetery. Emma Agnes, daughter of Mary and John H. Laughlin, was born on the home farm near Postville January 11, 1871. She attended first the Minert school and then the Postville public school. After the death of her mother she kept house for her father and sisters and brothers. Later she attended Highland Park College in Des Moines where she met W. W. Brooks, to whom she was married April 19, 1892. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Postville in 1942. To this union three children were born, Ruth, Mrs. Ray Douglass of Postville, Vance, who passed away in 1915, and Lt. R. Keith Brooks of Des Moines, who is now in France in the service of his country. There are five grandchildren, Betty Douglass, in Washington, D. C., Darlene Douglass, who is attending college in California, Jeanne, Robert K. and Jon Edward Brooks in Des Moines. Of the Laughlin family there still survives a sister, Abbie, Mrs. L. H.
