Thoma Passes On Friday Had Been a Resident Here Her Entire Life Mrs. George Thoma, 69, passed away at her home in this city on Friday (19 Nov 1937) near midnight following a brief illness and funeral services were held Monday afternoon, the Rev. O. Meyer of Clayton Center officiating in German and English at St. Paul's Lutheran church. Interment was made in the family plot in Postville cemetery. Mrs. Thoma was born as Louise Meyer, the daughter .of Henry and Meta Meyer, April 28, 1868, at Springfield, just south of Postville, and her entire life has been spent in this community, in Grand Meadow and Post townships and for the past 20 years in Postville. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran church and was married to George Thoma on December 15, 1885. The couple was privileged to observe its golden wedding about two years ago. To them were born seven children, all of whom, together with their father, survive and live in this community. They are: Fred H.J., Adala, Louis W., Eltha Klingbeil, Bertha, Lawrence, and Lena Plaht. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Margaret Sebastian and David Meyer of this city, John O. Meyer of Ossian and Sophia Schara of Prairie du Sac, Wis. Mrs. Thoma was a home loving woman, sacrificing all else to make the perfect home for her family. Her cheerful disposition and unselfish acts of serving them won her the high regard of all who knew her. Those here Monday from a distance to attend the funeral services included Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hannemann, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bigalk, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Meyer and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Kuenne of Cresco; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt, George Schmidt, Miss Caroline Schmidt and Mrs. Amelia Soll of Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. John O. Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Meyer and Lloyd Meyer of Ossian; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Meyer of Monona; Eulalia Klingbeil of Iowa City.
