Surnames: Lassey, Dawes Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Tk.2ADE/2402 Message Board Post: Mary Lassey, 91, Was Buried Here Horace P. Dawes of Springfield, Mo., arrived in Postville last Saturday forenoon with the remains of his aunt, Miss Mary Lassey, a pioneer resident of this community. Interment was in Postville Cemetery. Miss Lassey was born at Postville 91 years ago as the daughter of pioneer parents who came from England and located on a farm south of town, now operated by William Everman and E. J. Handy. The Lassey family retired from farming after the death of the father and lived in the house now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Dietsch. Over 50 years ago, after the death of her mother, Miss Lassey moved to Willow Springs, Mo., and made her home with her sister, Mrs. H. P. Dawes. She was cared for many years by her niece, Miss Lina I. Dawes. Miss Lassey was a member of the old Congregational church here. H. E. Roberts, who is a distant relative of the Dawes family, had her for her first Sunday school teacher and remembers her as a sweet, sincere Christian lady. Her mother was one of the founders of the Congregational church and every church service found her present. She was a woman of strong character and took her religious views very seriously. The bodies of both Mr. and Mrs. Dawes were brought to Postville for burial by Horace Dawes during the past 15 or 20 years.
