While researching the ancestry of William Henry Stock (b Apr, 1885) I have come to the following conclusions: 1. The obits of "Mrs. Fred Stock"... as posted by Mary Durr in Aug, 2001, and in Mar, 2002... are the obits of Sarah Roach Stock... second wife of Fred Roach and step-mother of his children: a. The obit of Mrs. Rose Hager (July 11, 1968)... also posted by Mary Durr in Aug, 2001... states that she was preceded in death by her parents (Fred and Elizabeth Roach Stock), siblings (Hattie, William, and Earl), and her step-mother. (Rose's brother John was still living at the time of Rose's decease.) b. An obit of Mrs. Fred Stock... posted by Mary Durr in Aug, 2001... lists her age (82) and the names of surviving children (Mrs. Hager, Mrs. Hattie Lauer, Will and John Stock... actually her step-children). c. An additional obit of the same Mrs. Fred Stock... posted by Mary Durr in Mar, 2002... includes the hand-written date of Apr 25, 1943 (Sarah Jane Roach Stock would have been age 82 at that time). d. The following recap of census records supports this conclusion: ....... 1900 West Virginia, Marshall Co, Union Dist, McMechan Census (ED 74, Sheet 8): The names of Earl, William, John, and Rose (4 of the 5 children) are all there in the Stuck household... with Fred, 47, as the widowed Head and Sarah Jane Roach, 39, as sister-in-law/housekeeper. ....... 1910 Iowa, Winneshiek Co, Frankville (ED 153, Sheet 8B): Only Fred, 68 (wrong... s/b 58), and Sarah, 49... now man and wife (married 8 years)... listed next to son/step-son William and his bride Laura. (The 1900 census record which shows Sarah as widowed may be wrong... as the 1910 census indicates that this is her 1st marriage and her surname in 1900 was the same as the maiden name her deceased sister Elizabeth.) ....... 1920 Iowa, Winneshiek Co, Frankville (ED 165, Sheet 8B): Again... just Fred, 68, and Sarah J, 58 (she is fudging a bit here)... listed 2nd down from son/step-son William, wife L. Josephine, and their 3 daughters. The friend for whom I have done this research does remember being told that he did indeed marry his sister-in-law... after she came to help with the children following his first wife's decease. 2. The earthly remains of Sarah Jane Roach Stock were interred in the Frankville Cemetery (Winneshiek Co.)... and not in the Zalmona Cem (Allamakee Co.). a. Her second obit states "Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery." b. The Allamakee Co cemetery list (found on the Allamakee genweb site) which shows both Sarah and Fred buried in the Zalmona Cem, appears to be incorrect. Source of info for her and for Fred was "DR"... Death records... apparently not from actual gravemarkers. (Fred's birthdate, Dec 1850 here, is probably wrong too... as 1900 census clearly reads "Dec 1852" and ages recorded in 1910 and 1920 censuses support the "2" rather than a "0". Am now wondering if actual burial site of the remains of husband Fred Stock was not also in Frankville Cemetery.) Hope this helps fellow Stock researchers. Am still struggling to find exact date of immigration of Fred Stock (1859 or 1869)... and with whom? He does not seem to be the son of either William or Frederich, sons of the older Gottlieb Stock (b 1799). Any input will be most deeply appreciated. Elaine
