DeWitt died Monday, July 28 at Barton Memorial hospital in South Lake Tahoe, CA following a short illness. Services were held Friday, Aug. 1 at the McFarlane Mortuary chapel in South Lake Tahoe with burial at Happy Homestead cemetery. He was born Feb. 9, 1904 in Waukon. He had been a summer resident at Lake Tahoe since 1947 with a summer home at Echo Summit. He managed the Berkley Echo Lake camp from 1935 to 1946, and was a high school teacher for 33 years. His home was at Little Norway. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in California - Oakland, Durante, Rockridge No. 188 F & AM in 1950. He was also a member of Sons in Retirement and an avid woodworker. Surviving are his wife Harriet of Berkeley and Little Norway, two sons, Carl L. DeWitt of Concord, CA, and Paul R. DeWitt of Newark, CA; a brother, Dwight of Denver, CO; two sisters, Jennie Donahue of Burlington and Marion DeWitt of Waukon, and five grandchildren.
