Lenz, 93, passed away July 29, 1987 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He suffered a stroke two weeks before at his home in New Albin. He was born January 15, 1894 to Henry and Mary (Gramlich) Lenz on the Lenz homestead near Churchtown, one of eight children. He married Anna Batteen in 1917. She died in August of 1929. To this union were born two children, Charlene and John. He then married Pearl Pohlman in 1930. She died in 1977. He farmed in the Lansing and Mabel, Minn. areas before moving to New Albin. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Charlene) Garrett, of Lansing; a son, John, of Scottsdale, Arizona; seven grandchildren; ten greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Edna Paptistella, of Hinsdale, Illinois. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, William, Theodore and Edward, and three sisters, Emma Parks, Nettie Yahnke and Clara Bauman. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, at the Grace Methodist Church in New Albin. Rev. Thomas Mattson officiated and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandchildren Kevin McCauley, Steven McCauley, Michelle McCauley, Jon Garrett, Jill Garrett, Renee Lysne, Gregory Lysne, Gary Lenz Jr., Stacy Lenz and Brian Anderson. Casket bearers were Jerry Plagge, Herbert Zarwell, Raymond Whalen, Robert Bulman, Cleon Sires and Raymond Sires. Attending the services from away were Mrs. Edna Paptistella of Hinsdale, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Paptistella of Western Springs, lil., Mr, and Mrs. Milton Lenz of Abbotsford, Wis., Mrs. Florence Lenz and Gerald Lenz of Abbotsford, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Dale Yahnke and Burdette Yahnke of Lake Crystal, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Wallie Johnson of Long Prairie, Minn. Others attending were from Mabel and Caledonia, Minnesota, La Crosse, Wis., Decorah, Lansing and the New Albin area. The Haugen-Roble funeral home of Caledonia was in charge of arrangements.
