She was born December 23, 1890 in rural Lansing to William and Nancy (Mink) Young. She was a graduate of Lansing Public High School. On April 6, 1910 she married Charles A. Greiser in Waukon with Rev. VanNice officiating. The Greisers lived on a farm near Churchtown after their marriage. Emma worked as a school teacher in country schools in the Churchtown area. Emma was loved by many who came to the farm to hunt squirrels and pick hickory nuts. In 1945 they sold the farm to Cory Moore and moved to New Albin where Emma was a babysitter. She was also an active fundraiser for the March of Dimes. Her husband was killed by lightning April 24, 1954. In 1979 Emma entered the Ackley Presbyterian Manor, Ackley, lA, and was transferred to Thornton Manor in 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Kolsrud Reese, Waukon; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece, Geraldine (Purrington) VanPelt, Eureka, CA. Besides her husband, Emma was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Charles Greiser; a sister, Florence Purrington; a brother, Richard Young; and two half-brothers, Warren and Walter Young. Funeral services were held Friday, March 23, at Zion United Church of Christ, Waukon, Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Burial was in Lansing Ridge Cemetery. Martin's Funeral Home, Waukon, handled the arrangements. Pallbearers were Randy Lier, Jack Sweeney, Jerry Plagge, Barry Fruechte, Cleon Sires, and Merlin Bechtel. Source: Newspaper Clipping
