He was born January 6, 1919, to Alfred and Emma (Meyer) Beneke in Union City Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He married Melba Meyer on September 14, 1946, in St. Peter's U.C.C. New Albin. He was a lifelong resident of Union City Township, Allamakee County where he farmed until his retirement He attended rural schools in Union City Township and was a member of St. John's U.C.C. and had served as a member of the Church Council. Survivors are his wife, Mel­ba, one son, Keith (Faye) Be­neke, New Albin; three daugh­ters, Jane (Ken) Staggemeyer, New Albin; Elizabeth (Tom) McConnick, Harpers Ferry; and Michelle (Bill) Wagner, Mono­na; thirteen grandchildren; and one brother, Alvin Beneke, New Albin. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Louis and two sisters, Anna and Nora (McNul­ty). Services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. John's U.C.C. Wheatland, rural New Albin. The Reverends Lawrence and Laura Odegard officiated and burial was in the church cemet­ery. Pall bearers were Bruce Be­neke, Daryl Beneke, Brad Be­neke, Robert Beneke, Randy Be­neke and Wayne Meyer.
