Verthein, 53, died suddenly Saturday (15 Sep 1951) at his home in French Creek township of a heart attack. He was born in Union City township March 18, 1898, to Mr. and Mrs. John Verthein. He married Leonette Ashbacher Jan. 11, 1925. He lived his entire life in Allamakee county. He is survived by his wife; a son, William, who lives with his mother on the home farm; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Kerndt of Center township; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph Bulman of Marion, Ia., Mrs. James Donahue of Cedar Rapids, Ia., and Mrs. Gustave Wild, Mrs. Bert Bulman, and Mrs. Napoleon Olander, all of Allamakee county; and three brothers, John or Waukon, Henry of Lansing, and Gustave of Caledonia, Minn. Funeral services were to be held Tuesday at Martin's Funeral Home and later in the French Creek Methodist church, the Rev. Frank Cass of New Albin officiating. Burial was to be in Oakland Cemetery.
