He was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, to Henry and Ella (Myers) Zarwell. On June 6, 1948, he married Malita Staggemeyer, in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Albin, Ia. Zarwell lived in the Eitzen-New Albin area all his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Caledonia Veterans of Foreign Wars, and St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Eitzen, Minn. Survivors are his wife; his mother of New Albin; a son, David of Anoka, Minn.; a daughter, Diane Hofer of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren; a brother, Herbert of New Albin, Ia.; and a sister, Gladys Sires of New Albin, Ia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Eitzen, Minn. The Rev. Lane Zaffke will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Haugen-Roble Funeral Home, Caledonia, Minn. Friends also may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
