He had three brothers and three sisters, he being the youngest in the family. Mrs. Elizabeth Wood, of Frankville, was his eldest sister and the only surviving member of the family. At the age of fifteen he removed with his parents to Wheatland, Ingham Co., Michigan. Here in his eighteenth year he enlisted in Co. B, 15th Mich. Vol, Infantry and served three years. After a short furlough he re-enlisted in the veteran service early in 1864 and served until his final discharge at little Rock, Ark., Aug. 15, 1865, his service covering a slightly longer time than the duration of the entire war. On his return from the service he was married Oct. 21st, 1865 to Mary A. Juilleret, of Detroit, Mich., she has been the faithful companion and helper of his entire married life to the day of his death. Their first home was at Cheboygan, Mich., where were born to them two sons and two daughters. The little boys were early called to the better land.. In 1873 the parents with the two little girls came to Waukon, Allamakee county. the family settled upon a farm in Ludlow township, where they resided until 1885. Here were born to them two sons and three daughters. In 1885 he removed to Franklin township which place continued to be his home to the end of his life. In early life he joined the Methodist Episcopal church. During the time he lived in Ludlow township he attended the service at school house No. 6 on the Waukon charge. When he came to Franklin township he attended the Volney church and was one of its honored members. It was in his religious life that Mr. Stahl was really best known. Being a most consistent christian in daily life it was easy for him to lead his family of five daughters and two sons in the way of christian living. And in this he had the hearty co-operation of his wife.. Sometime the entire family took part in two Sunday schools at the same time, one meeting in the forenoon and one in the afternoon.. He was faithful in such township offices as he held as well as U.S. census eppaerator(?). A model citizen, devoted husband, loving father and an ideal christian has gone to his reward. He was greatly blessed in the presence of his wife, sister and all his children in his last hours. His funeral occurred at Forest Chapel, Sunday, July 21st. Rev. Williams of Monona Officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. Card of thanks We desire to thank the many neighbors and friends for their sympathy and kindness during our recent bereavement. Mrs. M.E.
