George was born March 12, 1930, in Waukon, and had been a resident of Cedar Rapids since 1950. He married Norma Jean Mitchell at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Lycurgus, rural Waukon. George was employed as a welder at Iowa Steel and Iron Works Inc. for 10 years and had also worked as a truck driver for Hubbard Ice and Fuel Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and was a former member of the Parish Council. George was a member of Cadets of St. George Branch 45 F.C.S.L.A. (formerly Catholic Workmen). He enjoyed fishing and hunting, camping, doing yard work and just being outdoors. George was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. George's family would like to thank Sister Peg and Sister Nina and the Seventh Floor staff of Mercy Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave George during his final illness.
