She must be a descendant of Mary Ann Regan, as her mother Ruth Bauercamper's maiden name was Regan and I did a little research on the family some time back. I think the Waldron family lived for a while in Whiteside County, Illinois where Ronald Reagan was originally from. Do you know where the Waldron family came from in Ireland? Joan's grandparents were Hazel June Cowan Regan and Peter Regan. I think her great grandfather was Charles Regan and her great-great grandfather was Daniel Regan. Dwight Palas

    3. Dear Patrick, The St. Joseph's Cemetery ( Paint Rock ) is kept up and still in use. I just visited it last fall and it is very accessible. It is along side the Lansing- Harpers Ferry Road (Co. Rd. B25) on top of the ridge just before you start to descend down the valley towards Harpers. Here is the web-site for that Cemetery: http://searches1.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/ia/allamakee/cemeteries/wood mansee/pg556-574.txt Regards, Jerry Brennan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrick L. 1. Re: [IAALLAMA-L] Old town names/places
    2. Jerry and/or Carol Brennan
    3. Dear Sharyl, I can help you out on some of the names and places. Heytman ( I've seen it spelled Heitman also) is in Lafayette Township. It is named after Heytman Station which was a railroad station on the bank of the Mississippi River. There is a small community of cabins located there now. Many of the places that you are wondering about are areas that I believe received their name from the old one room school houses that the families in that location sent their children. These "neighborhoods" were districts for that particular school. Heytman is in the Russell area of Lafayette Township (center-east Lafayette Twsp). Wexford is in south east Lafayette Twsp. directly south of the Russell area. It is an Irish settlement named by a group of Irish that settled there in 1851. Immaculate Conception Church is located there and the church is also known as the Wexford Church. That immediate area is called Wexford because of the old Wexford School House but Wexford is generally referred to as the area that includes the members of the Wexford Church Parrish and that spreads those boundaries out to encompass most of eastern Lafayette Twsp. Lafayette is a Township but the Lafayette school area is in center south Lafayette Twsp. (directly west of Wexford school area). Capoli is located directly north of the Russell area, just above Heytman Station in Lafayette Twsp.It is named after a large buff over looking the Mississippi River near the Interstate Power Company's power plant. I believe that the early French settlers named it. Before the Irish settled in Wexford, there was a small French settlement at the mouth of the Wexford Creek. I assume that the Lafayette name came from the French also. North Capoli is the area just north of Capoli (duh! as my kids say to me) and is also known as the Columbus area. Columbus was once a town at the mouth of Village Creek but now only houses a few homes and cabins. It is located in the extreme south east corner of Lansing Twsp. Waukon Junction is a couple of miles south of Harpers Ferry in Taylor Twsp.on State Hwy. 364. There used to be a rail road line that ran from Waukon and came down the valley and connected to the main railroad line that ran along the Mississippi River. That line was abandoned years ago. This community is very close to the southern boundary of Taylor Twsp. Yellow River is a small river (more of a creek) that flows through the Yellow River State Park in Taylor Twsp. It is mostly in the south west corner of Taylor Township but there is a section and some acreage that flows into Fairview Twsp. It also includes a partial section that flows into Paint Creek Twsp. This area would be considered located in Tayor Twsp. It is a beautiful park. You are correct about Paint Rock. It is the area around the old St. Joseph's Church (Burned down years ago) and cemetery, located about 2 or 3 miles west of Harpers Ferry on the Lansing- Harpers Ferry Road (County Rd. B25). Paint Rock was named after a bluff just south of Harpers and located before you get to Waukon Junction, so I do not think that that area goes far enough south so that it enters Fairview Twsp. Section 3 of Taylor Twnsp is a small section next to the river as far south as you can get in that twsp. It is possible that they once were to have a "river point" called Paint Rock in Fairview Twsp., but as far as I know, Paint Rock is the area immediately west and south of Harpers Ferry and that it does not go into Fairview. I hope I have been helpful. Keep up the good work.
