F. J. Vallaster as celebrant of the mass for Mrs. Elizabeth C. Sonnkalb who passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Gallagher at Parker, South Dakota on Saturday, June 7, 1952. Burial was made in the family lot in Grand Meadow cemetery near her old home. The deceased was born on March 14, 1860, as the daughter of Jacob and Anna Heirigs Leui, in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county. She received her early education in the nearby district school and in the Postville high school. She also attended Iowa State Normal school at Cedar Falls, where she prepared herself for her teaching profession. On September 7,1892 she was united in marriage to Charles F. W. Sonnkalb. To this union five children were born: Nellie, Mrs. J. R. Gallagher of Parker, South Dakota, Paul L., of Postville, Elizabeth, Mrs. Bennett Buren of Leland, and two sons who died in infancy, Robert and Charles. After the death of her husband in 1911, she continued living in Postville until1928. For a number of years she was housekeeper for Rev. J. J. Clune and after his death made her home with her sister, Miss Anna Leui of Postville and her two daughters. She had been in failing health for several years and her death is attributed to old age. She is survived by her twin sister, Miss Anna H. Leui, her three children, Nellie, Paul, and Elizabeth, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Bollman Services were held Friday at 1:30 p. m. from the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville for Vives G. Bollman who passed away November 4 (1968)at his home in Castalia. Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiated. Burial was in the Bloomfield Cemetery. Vives G. Bollman, son of Moses and Eunice (Brown) Bollman, was born February 1, 1889 in Winneshiek County. He was educated in the rural schools of the county, later attending a school of photography at Bloomington, Illinois. On November 14, 1913 he was united in marriage to Sada Richards of Castalia. To this union was born four children: Donald, who died in infancy; Mildred, Mrs. Phillip Hawk, North Bend, Washington; Gertrude, Mrs. Ed Floody, of Decorah; and Richard of Castalia. Mr. and Mrs. Bollman farmed for many years in this community and then retired to their home in Castalia. Mr. Bollman worked at the carpenter and electrician trade for some time. For many years he was caretaker of the cemeteries in Bloomfield township. Vives, as he was known to his friends, was interested in many projects. He was especially interested in the history of the surrounding community and used his skill as a photographer to reproduce many places of interest and historical events and compiled a vast amount of historical data and material. He was a member of the Winneshiek Historical Society and an active worker in the Bloomfield Society. Because of his interest and devotion in compiling this material, he has left this community a rich heritage. He is survived by his three children, three brothers, Fenton of Caldwell, Idaho; Engle Oberton of San Francisco, and Farrel of Notus, Idaho and one sister, Brunnie Post, of Spokane, Washington; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, and one sister, also two half-sisters and one half-brother.

Courson Held Here Last Sunday Funeral services for Elmer T. Courson, who passed away at Long Beach, California, Jan 8th, (1938) were held at the Postville Community Presbyterian Church last Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Samuel Garwin of Dubuque, and a goodly number of old acquaintances of the deceased were present to pay a last tribute of respect to his memory. Interment was made in the family plot in Postville cemetery. Those from out of town present at the funeral were Wilmer Stowe of Fort Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Courson of Belmond, Rev. Chas. Richards of Spirit Lake, and Chris Heller of Long Beach, Calif., the last named being a close friend of the deceased and accompanied the remains here. Harris Passes On Suddenly Thursday Mrs. J W. Harris, lifelong resident of Post township, passed away at the family home last Thursday, the end coming in her sleep. She had been up town the day before attending to her shopping and in apparent good health. She was 67 years of age. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Community Presbyterian church in this city, with the Rev. Fred Butler, pastor of the Frankville Community church officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery. Mrs. Harris was born as Caroline Segrist, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Segrist, September 27, 1870, in Post township, on the place now occupied by the C. C. Meyer family. She was united in marriage to James William Harris, February 17, 1887, and together they reared their family in the farm home in Post township. Last year they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, three sons, Martin of Castalia, Obert and Fred of Postville. Also surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Joe Evans, Postville, Mrs. Ethel Fast, Zanesville, Ohio; Mrs. Fred Lawson, Postville; Mrs. Lester Smith, Postville; Mrs. Edward Barnes, Clermont; and Mrs. Ernest Johnson, Canton, Minn. Also two sisters, Mrs. Conrad Hangartner and Mrs. Frank Roffman; and a brother, Fred Segrist. She also leaves 38 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harris was formerly a member of the United Brethren church, but later transferred to the Postville Community Presbyterian church. She was known as a friend to everyone in need. Hers was the dominant spirit of the pioneer, with a greatness at of soul that met life squarely, flinching not, nor retreating. She was an outstanding person in her home community. She often quoted from the scripture "she hath done what she could" as a simple answer to the thanks of someone grateful for her timely help. She has been a staunch wife and mother and her passing leaves a deep loss to the family circle and to all those who knew her.

Harris Passes On After Lingering Illness J. W. Harris, 79 years old, Post township farmer for the past 56 years, passed away Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lester Smith, where he had been making his home following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Schutte's funeral rooms at 2:15 and at the Community Presbyterian Church at 2:30, the Rev. J. Ian Fraser being in charge, and interment was made in Postville cemetery. Mr. Harris was born near Caldwell, Ohio, March 24, 1860, to Gary and Rosanne Harris, and spent his early years in that vicinity. At the age of 16 years he joined the United Brethren church of Caldwell, and when 23 years of age, he came to Iowa, taking up his residence in Post township, where he has since lived. Mr. Harris was married to Caroline Segrist on February 17, 1887, and to this union three sons and six daughters were born, all of whom survive. Mrs. Harris passed away in January 1938, and two brothers, Cornelius and Floyd, also preceded him. The surviving children are Martin Harris, Castalia, Obert and Fred Harris; Postville, Mrs. May Evans, Mrs. Ella Lawson and Mrs. Dora Smith; Postville; Mrs. Ethel Fast, Zanesville, Ohio, Mrs. Florence Barnes, Clermont, and Mrs. Lucille Johnson, Canton, Minn. Also surviving are three brothers, S. A. Harris; Postville; Elisha Harris, Zanesville, Ohio, and Dallas Harris, Caldwell, Ohio; two sisters, Celia Radcliffe, South Olive, Ohio, and Ollie Lukenbill of Zanesville, Ohio, and numerous other relatives. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's, was in charge of the rites. Burial was in Postville cemetery. Born In Germany William Everman passed away suddenly with a heart attack at his home during the early morning hours of Thursday, May 24, 1956, aged 75 years and 24 days. He retired from farming in October 1944 because of ill health when the family moved to Postville. William John Carl Everman, son of Frederick and Minnie Everman, was born in Mecklenburg, Germany on May 1, 1881. At the age of 10 years, he came with his parents to the United States and the family settled in this community. He was baptized Lutheran and confirmed in 1895 in the Lutheran Church at Postville. On February 20, 1908, he was married to Emma Elizabeth Wegner. To this union eight children were born, of which seven survive: Marie (Mrs. Harry Davis), Florence (Mrs. Gordon Lawson), Gretchen (Mrs. Clinton Meyer), Irene (Mrs. Hubert Mounce), Clarence, Harold and Pauline at home. In addition to his widow and children, he is survived by 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Rudy of Postville, Walter and Fred of Castalia: and one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Baltz of Postville. His parents, one son and one granddaughter preceded him in death.

After spending a brief time in Milwaukee, she came to Postville, where in 1858 she was married to John Casten. To this union were born three children, namely Emma, now Mrs. Wm. Foels; John and Henry, all of whom reside in and near Postville. In 1865 her husband was called to the great beyond, and in 1866 she was married to Matthias Sebastian, who also preceded her in death. On the 7th day of last November she suffered a paralytic stroke from which she recovered, but only for a short time, when she was again stricken, and on Wednesday, February 12th (1919) at three p.m. after ten days of intense suffering, she answered the summons. She leaves to mourn her loss her three children, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many relatives and friends. The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon from the Lutheran church. Interment in Postville Cemetery. Card of Thanks We hereby wish to express our sincere thanks to those who so kindly assisted us during the illness, death and burial of our mother and grandmother. Rev. C. E. Witt was in charge of the rites. Burial was in Postville cemetery. Gustave Adolph Renne, the son of William Renne and Henrietta Kugel, was born in Allamakee county on February 4, 1877. He passed away on November 30, 1954 at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union, at the age of 77. Mr. Renne was married to Hattie McIntyre in Frankville in 1903. To this union was born one son, Floyd, who now resides in Phoenix, Arizona. His first wife passed away in June 1919. He was married to Amy Kugel on September 15, 1920 in West Union. He lived in Cedar Rapids for more than 30 years. His wife, Amy, passed away on December 26, 1940. He came to live in West Union at the Good Samaritan home in March 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Hattie in 1919, his second wife, Amy in 1940, and two brothers, Fred and Charles. He is survived by one sister, Martha Wallace of Waukon, and one brother, Paul Renne of Charles City. Mr. Renne was baptized in the Presbyterian Church at an early age.
