The Allamakee County web-site is growing!! We now have 595 pages of information!! Our home page has a 'new', but very old map of Allamakee Co. thanks to Suzann Holland -- we hope you like it! The 'old' township map has moved to its own page -- find a link to it in the Land Record index. Recent visitors will have noticed that the web-site has a new search engine. Search for your ancestors in the on-site data-bases. Presently the search does not include the cemetery or census records (which are off-site) -- fortunately both of those data-bases have indexes. New or up-dated pages in June 2002: ------- Waukon alumni 1889-1929, submitted by Jan Miller (wow, this is incredible) ------- Updated: 1913 bio's submitted by Cathy LaBath ------- Jolynne Bockman has contributed 3 old family letters and Jackie Bartholomay sent us a will. ------- Jody Howard has contributed her records to the "Land Records" and "Immigration & Naturalization" data-bases. ------ "L'Bits" has been up-dated with a short article about the 'Allamakee County Historical and Archaeological Society' in 1915. ------ Woodmansee cemetery corrections have been submitted by Bob Hauser & Nancy Geitgey. ------ Mike Healey submitted some corrections to the Allamakee township map prior to his death in April 2002. Click on "Land Records" then "Allamakee Township map" ------ The Directory has been up-dated: History of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville was submitted by Sharyl Ferrall. (find it in the directory, under Presbyterian church) and there are links to Iowa 'City Directories' and to a fantastic web-site, 'Round Barns'. Lots of pictures of Allamakee Co. barns (don't miss this web-site). ------ Misc. portions of Hancock's "Past & Present in Allamakee Co. Iowa" 1913 have been submitted: Wexford (by Cathy LaBath), Agricultural & Farmers Association (by Sharyl Ferrall) & County formation (by Grace Keir). Chapter 17, originally transcribed by Kay Brumbaugh in 2000, has been reformated and added to the 1913 history. ------ Two new Norwegian immigration-into-Allamakee files were submitted by Sharyl Ferrall: a 1905 article & map -- a great article even if you don't have Norwegian ancestors -- and a 1959 article (excerpts). ------ Switzerland of Iowa -- an 1859 description of Allamakee Co. towns & people, was submitted by Sharyl Ferrall. ------ New marriages from the Postville newspapers 1873-1930 have been submitted by Sharyl Ferrall. This data-base is alphbetized by Groom surname. Marriages have been added for names starting with B,C,D,E,F,G,H,K,L,M,P,S & T ------ A link to the Allamakee Co. mailing list archives has been added. Browse or search the messages dating back to 1997. Click on "Allamakee Co.
