Since this list has become so active recently, I thought I'd restate my HYDE in hopes someone knew something about her or her family. Catherine HYDE was born around 1815. She married Nicholas LOUGHLIN, born Ireland around 1808-1810. At some point they immigrated to London where son John was born around 1835 (although some census say New York). Family history backs the London birth. When he was young (whatever that means), they immigrated to NY (state or city/state is unknown). I have a photograph that was taken in Utica Oneida Co New York. But I'm not even sure if it is either John or father, Nicholas. I'm guessing that by furnishings and clothing it dates it to around 1860's. The 1870 census has parents living with John, his wife and children in Andrew, Jackson Co IA. It is the only time I found the parents in a census and lists Nicholas as a 'taylor.' By 1880, John & Elizabeth TREANOR LOUGHLIN had moved back to Dubuque where Elizabeth had grown up and where they were married. We believe Catherine HYDE had a brother William. I corresponded with one of his decedents briefly who said they were from Fermoy. William is in the 1870 & 1880 census living nearby in Butler Township, Garryowen PO, Jackson Co IA William's wife was Margaret (unknown surname). They had 3 children: Ellen, Robert & Catherine, all born in 1844 - 1850. I have found an Ellen Hyde (in Dubuque) as sponsor for one of Elizabeth & John's children, William Joseph, who was possibly named after Ellen's father. Given Irish naming patterns, perhaps William was the name of Catherine & William's father back in Ireland. Robert HYDE was still living in Jackson co in 1896 when he married Hannah DUGGAN. Thanks! Ellen
