So you can't email me for now. My hyde research has has some distressing setbacks. I have been working under the assumption for some time now that my great grandmother Sarah E.Hyde Lewter was the daughter of Anthony Gray Hyde and Mary Pleasant. This no longer appears to be the case. I selected them as they were the only Hydes found on census records to have a daughter named Sarah the right age to be my great grandma in the state of Texas at the right time. THe census records did say that Anthony and Mary Hydes daughter Sarah was a Sarah J or G and I wrote that off to illegible handwriting and also stated that she was born in Texas and my Sarah on the 1880 census and on a widows pension appliccation form in the last months of her life also stated that she had been born in Arkansas. I have since found the othert Sarah Hyde mentioned in some other writings as being Sarah Jennings Hyde which is strange as there was a Sarah Gray Hyde Jennings also who was the daughter of John Hansford Hyde and Polly S! trouther Gray Hyde. This Sarah was the sister of Anthony Gray Hyde. I think, though nothing seems certain with this family. Way too many Sarah Hyde in Texas in the 1800's. Anyway. every document I have says my Sarah was Sarah E Hyde. She married my great grandpa Robert Bolin Lewter in Tyler, Smith co. Texas on 24 DEC 1876. The marriage license lists her as Mrs. S.E. Franklin. THis is at least a 2nd marriage for her. It is the 3rd for Robert Lewter. HIs first two wives were thought to have died in childbirth and I have no idea what happen to Mr. Franklin. I know her last name is Hyde from two sources. The book TEXANS WHO WORE THE GRAY by Syndney Johnson refers to her as Mrs. Sarah E Franklin nee Hyde when she is mentioned in a bio of Robert Lewter as his 3rd wife. And my grandfather filled out a Social Secuirty form called and SS-5 which required he put down the maiden name of his mother and he listed her as Sallie Hyde. SHe died in Tyler, Texas Feb. 1914. She filled out this form in the fall in Sept. 1913. She stated at that time her age was 58, that she had lived in Texas 53 years which would have made her 5 when she came to Texas and she further answers a question pertaining to how long she lived in SMith co. and she states 50 years. That would have put her in Smith county or some of her Hyde family in SMith between 1860 and 1870. I can find no family with a daughter named Sarah abt age 5 on the 1860 census in either Ark. or Texas. I can find no Hydes in Smith county at all. I know that Smith and Nacogdoches were once part of one another which again made me think her part of the Anthony Gray Hyde family or one of his brothers. But if he was her uncle I need to find the brother who stopped off in Ark. I need to find anything on Smith county Hydes between 1860 and 1876. Barb
