    3. Hello Lynn and Jeff, I would be very interested in what this book has to say. I am in possession of information concerning my relationship to the HYDE family descending from a Samuel Hyde, Jr b May, 166_ , m. Elizabeth CALKINS 16 Dec 1690 and d 6 Nov 1742. I have no documentation of this information, as it was furnished to me by a cousin who just mentioned it was from a HYDE book. Could this be contained in the book that you have? I'm trying to confirm the ancestry of Lucretia Eviline HYDE who married Ashbel BUCKLAND 2 Sept 1832 in West Putnam, VT. It appears that Lucretia is the descendant of two HYDE families. If you could provide me with any verification of this, I would greatly appreciated it. Judy Penland Date: Fri, 1 Oct 2004 20:30:57 -0500 From: "Lynn" To: HYDE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: a Hyde book I have a copy of a very small book called "A Partial Record Of One Branch of THE HYDE FAMILY." Descendants of Samuel, who came from London to Boston in 1639 and Jonathan, who came to America in 1647. Published in 1931 by the Tuttle Company in Rutland, Vermont by Charles E. Tuttle. If someone would like information from it I would be happy to oblige. It follows nine generations. Samuel was born in England in 1610. His wife was Temperance. Jonathan, his brother, was born in England in 1626, married Mary French of Billerica and lived in Newton MA, then included in Cambridge. Many generations only have names and dates, nothing more. By the sixth or seventh generations there is a little more information. The families start out in MA, some moved to CT and by the later generations are all over the U.S. None of these Hydes are mine, so if it isn't in the book, I can't help you as none of mine are in New England. It can be VERY helpful in breaking through stone walls from around 1770 to 1885 for relatives in Vermont, New York and Connecticut, when records are scarce. The publisher's note explains that the 1931 edition was reprinted "from one privately printed by Rufus S. Warner, Ludlow, Vermont, about July 1878. Mr. Warner may or may not have been the author." "The lines represented are largely the Vermont Branch of the Hyde Family, giving the descendants to the eighth generation. The edition was of about 25 copies -- 20 pages text and the other pages were added and tipped in as the author obtained additional information -- up to the year 1885." This is not quite true. My grandmother, born in 1879, was in the 10th generation from Jonathan Hyde. It includes births into the early 1880s. The greatest value I found was in tracing my HYDE family back from New York into Vermont and Connecticut. The author evidently was able to contact some older members of this HYDE line who remembered their grandparents or great grandparents, and could bridge the gap where records are very scarce and LDS files are incomplete or incorrect. There's only 27 pages altogether, and some details are sketchy. Catherine HYDE was born around 1815. She married Nicholas LOUGHLIN, born Ireland around 1808-1810. At some point they immigrated to London where son John was born around 1835 (although some census say New York). Family history backs the London birth. When he was young (whatever that means), they immigrated to NY (state or city/state is unknown). I have a photograph that was taken in Utica Oneida Co New York. But I'm not even sure if it is either John or father, Nicholas. I'm guessing that by furnishings and clothing it dates it to around 1860's. The 1870 census has parents living with John, his wife and children in Andrew, Jackson Co IA. It is the only time I found the parents in a census and lists Nicholas as a 'taylor.' By 1880, John & Elizabeth TREANOR LOUGHLIN had moved back to Dubuque where Elizabeth had grown up and where they were married. We believe Catherine HYDE had a brother William. I corresponded with one of his decedents briefly who said they were from Fermoy. William is in the 1870 & 1880 census living nearby in Butler Township, Garryowen PO, Jackson Co IA William's wife was Margaret (unknown surname). They had 3 children: Ellen, Robert & Catherine, all born in 1844 - 1850. I have found an Ellen Hyde (in Dubuque) as sponsor for one of Elizabeth & John's children, William Joseph, who was possibly named after Ellen's father. Given Irish naming patterns, perhaps William was the name of Catherine & William's father back in Ireland. Robert HYDE was still living in Jackson co in 1896 when he married Hannah DUGGAN. Thanks!
