    3. Hello June, Thanks for your interesting letter. I am very intrigued by your Jonathan Hyde born in London 1626 being the son of Robert and Alice Crompton of Denton, Lancs. Robert was born in 1604, being 35 yrs. of age when his father William Hyde died in 1639, which would make him 22 yrs. old when Jonathan was born. According to the compiled pedigree of 1645 and records of the Hydes of Denton, Robert Hyde Esq. of Denton married Alice Crompton age 20. 3rd. dau. and heiress of Thomas Crompton of Crompton by Rochdale, 17th. April 1624. Their first child Anne was born 10 months later. There were 15 children altogether recorded as follows:- Anne Hyde b. 5 Feb 1624/5, bap 23rd. = Rev. William Bell of Elswick and Huyton. Later living at Sinderland Hall. Elinor Hyde b. 10 May 1626, bap 17th. died 18 Apr. 1650 Katherine Hyde b. 24 May 1627, bap 30th.=1. William Meeke Minister of Salford Chapel 2. Ralph Ardern William Hyde b. 12 Sep 1628, bap 20th. S.P. age 7 yrs. Bur. at Stockport 2 June 1635 Robert Hyde b. 7 Jan. 1628. bap 12th. bur. at Denton 1699 = Mary Jackson Deborah Hyde b. 7 Sep 1632, bap 9 Dec.= John Wadsworth of Swathe, Co. York Grace Hyde b. 29 Nov 1634, bap 9 Dec. bur. 18 Jan 1688/9 William Hyde b. 30 dec. bap Jan. Executor to his father's Will dd. 10 Jul 1682 Mary Hyde b. 11 Jan 1638, bap 22nd. Jane Hyde b. 27 Aug 1640 bap 2nd. Sep Samuel Hyde b.11 Aug 1641 bap 25th. Later became a Deacon Alice Hyde b. 30 Sep 1642, bap 8 Jan. marr. at Mottram in Londendale to John Hollingworth of Tintwistle Elizabeth Hyde b.2 Jun 1644 at manc. bap. 6th. died 19 Nov. 6am. 1645 Martha Hyde b. 14 Jul 1645, bap 20th. died 16 Jul 1652 Elizabeth Hyde b. 28 Sep 1646, bap 8 Oct. These births are all entered in the family Bible and also in the parish registers of the Collegiate and Parish Church of Manchester Cathedral including Elizabeth decd. that was bap. at Manchester. Of your Jonathan there is no sign at all. As he would have been the first born son, it is provocative to imagine that Robt. Hyde and Alice Crompton may have lost him in London and not mention him in the Bible. Do you have the sources of information as to his birth/parentage? I would love to see it please. Jonathan is not a name used before with the Denton Hydes until a hundred years later. John is more usual. I have cross checked with the Hydes of Norbury and Hyde but I can see no connection there either. There is another possibility which looks more promising. You say that you are descended from the Earl of Clarendon's line. Edward Hyde 1st. Earl of Clarendon was of the family Hyde of Dinton in Wiltshire. I am thinking of the Hydes of West Hatch and Dinton [six miles apart]in Wiltshire. There is a Robert Hyde of West Hatch b. 1600 who marr. Ann Hyde of West Hatch in 1626. [I have some of the Wiltshire pedigrees but they are incomplete regarding subsequent offspring.] Is is possible that this Robert Hyde of Dinton [not Denton, Lancs.] could be the father of your Jonathan and Samuel? [There was a Robert Hyde b. 1560 of Dinton/West Hatch =1589 Anne Castillian. [Her ancestors have royal blood in their veins] They had a dau. Ann Hyde b.1589 who marr. Robert Hyde of Norbury & Hyde but she died Nov. 1638 having had 12 children, [including the Henry Hyde "now in Maryland"] so that does not fit your pattern either. What is coincidental is that we have 2 Roberts marrying 2 Ann Hydes! My thought is that Anne b. 1589 is the oldest sister to Robert b. 1600. Anne b. 1589 Elizabeth b. 1595 bap Salisbury Cathedral Hamnet b. 1598 Robert b. 1600 wed Ann Hyde 1626 West Hatch ****** Lawrence b. 1601 I do not have any records of the families of those three sons. If you can, try and find out about the Dinton and West Hatch bunch. That would be most interesting and yield more details. That is about all that I can suggest - happy hunting and keep in touch.
