Surnames: Hyde Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/5519/4Yk.2ACIB/941.2 Message Board Post: I too was given a family history indicating the immigrant ancestor John Hyde, along with his brother William, came to Long Island circa 1733, from England. John's sons were William & Henry, no mention of a Joshua in my info, yet the rest sounds so very close. William may have lived for a time in NJ, Henry stayed on LI. Within two generations their decendents are in Towanda, PA and Owego, NY. During the 1870's these same Hydes attempted to gain compensation from the English Crown for lands seized during the time of their emmigration. Any chance these are the same Hydes? I have no info on John & William's parents or William's line, other than he went west. If this sounds intriging to anyone, let me know. I have more details, unfortunately I haven't been able to verify much.
