Hyde's book "Pistols and Politics" he recounts several shootings involving Gills and Hydes during the late 1890's with repercussions into the 1900's. He does not mention "Robert" Gill. He does cite an article in the New Orleans Daily Picayune, March, 1908, concerning "a series of retaliatory killings." Also He cites "Interviews of Watson and of Samuel C. Hyde, Sr., Amite, LA, July, 1990" in RURAL SOCIOLOGY, SXV (1987), 223-37: "Rural Social Areas and Patterns of Homicide: An Analysis of Lethal Violence in Louisiana."
