Has anyone run across these names in wills or documents? Noel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, or James Hide/Hyde ? Birth years would be 1770's or so. I think they may have been in Orange county, N.C. Or their fathers were. Thanks.
This is a reply to Steve Hyde: I tried to reply to the message board, but ancestry is not cooperating this morning. Have you checked the book History and Genealogy of Ancient Windsor? Windsor is not far from Southwick and Granville, MA. Also, the town of Lee, Berkshire, Co., MA had several HYDE and HATCH families in the 1800s. This seemed to be connected to NY, also. I found one census listing for Lee that included a teacher with many students in his home from NY and they included many HYDEs. He was a HYDE. Researching: Pinney, Packard, Crawford, Piercy, See, Barden, Bradford, Etheridge, George, Hatch, Alden, Frost, White, Buckland, Hyde, Eastman. All in New England. I trace my family history so I will know who to blame.......

I recently heard from a relative who had an old bible record labelled "Joseph Hyde - Southwick" record that ties my GGGGrandfather, Josephus Hyde, to your Esther Hyde who married Ambrose Doolittle. I also found some poorly-documented records on the LDS (IGI) website that appears to confirm and add to the bible records, but they are too fragmented and no source is supplied. Sue, I'm glad your post didn't make it to the original "lister." I've only recently started looking into my HYDE ancestors and I believe your information will be a help to me. My ancestor, according to notes given to me by a cousin, was Samuel HYDE who came to New London, Conn. As a child, I'm 63 now, my aunt always said our family could be "traced back to the HYDEs of Hyde Park, England." My mother always dismissed this. She wasn't impressed by what she thought was her sister's grab at high born ancestors. I am absolutley hooked on finding my ancestors. I feel it is like solving the world's greatest mystery. This message is for Franklin Rembert. Hello Franklin I tried to reply directly to your personal email only to have it returned twice so I have tried again for the third time. I am having problems with another friend in US with none of my letters reaching her. If this one is returned then I shall post my 'addition' to the reading list via rootsweb. and here it is, I do apologise:- Thank you for your letter and kind words though I am sorry that you may not be able to get any of the books. I am positive that I noticed the Thomas Middleton titles on the Mormon list a few years ago. I copied it but have no idea at all where I put it. What a terrible, terrible tragedy about Columbia. We were away in France these past five days and only got a belated account. How very distressing for you to have experienced hearing the explosion. We do not live in a easy world. Do you live near Dallas? I live near Oxford, UK. I was born in Manchester but only began to know and explore the area over the past six years while I was researching my family. I am actually a Hyde of the Haughton bunch, my gr. gr. gr. grandfather was Clerk of the Chapel/Church of St. Lawrence Denton 1765-1788. This is what I tried to send the first time:- I have not done much regarding the early Hydes who emigrated to U.S. although I do, of course, have sketches on Edward Hyde Governor of North Carolina 1710-1712. He was the Hyde of Norbury and Hyde who sold up the entire Norbury estate around 1690 fearing "utter ruine" 30th. Dec. 1709 the family sailed from Plymouth to Virginia and the Albermarle area, via New York His descendants, the Hyde-Clarke's later returned to Hyde and re-established themselves in Hyde and Denton. In 1663 Henry Hyde, 11th. son of Robert Hyde of Norbury and Hyde and his second wife Anne Hyde daughter of Robert Hyde of West Hatch, Wilts. and part of the Clarendon line, was in Maryland, America. Another brother Lawrence of Ballough Loughlan Castle, Ireland, also went to US I believe. The actual Earl of Clarendon was a descendant of the Hydes of Denton. There is one more book which you may be able to find and is a good read: The Shadow of a Crown. The life story of James 11 of England and V11 of Scotland. by Meriol Trevor, 1988 published by Constable. ISBN 0 09 467850 2 This describes the courtship, marriage and family of Anne Hyde eldest child and only daughter of Edward Earl of Clarendon, to the future James 11. and their daughters Mary & Anne Stuart. Finally, there is someone over your way, who has a lot of information and knowledge about the southern Hydes, William who married Hester Trott abt.1630, & Samuel, who went to New London Connecticut, etc. and your own Hyde Hall. He gave me a web site but I no longer seem to have it. They were the sons of William Hyde & Beatrice Calverly of Norbury and Hyde It is two years ago but his email address then was robert5@uswest.net Good luck, Sue

This is for Franklin Rembert and Debbie Spencer. Following my letter on the history of the Early Hydes of Lancashire and Cheshire in which I said that the sources were readily available, I have been asked for details of those sources. I enclose a list of several book titles which would give a comprehensive background to much of that history. These are my suggestions. I regret that I cannot supply details from the many hours and weeks of personal research in Record Offices, Libraries, Parish Records and yet more printed local history booklets which are privately owned.
