    2. CHERYL A
    3. There is a great genealogy book available out on ebay. It's called, "The Source", A Guidebook to American Genealogy". It's 750 pages in length and explains how and where to find all aspects of family records, from birth, death and marriage records, to tax records, land records, immigrations and military records. It covers native americans, hispanics, jewish-americans and african americans. It's brand new and in mint condition. Just thought I would list this if anyone is interested.

John's sons were William & Henry, no mention of a Joshua in my info, yet the rest sounds so very close. William may have lived for a time in NJ, Henry stayed on LI. Within two generations their decendents are in Towanda, PA and Owego, NY. During the 1870's these same Hydes attempted to gain compensation from the English Crown for lands seized during the time of their emmigration. Any chance these are the same Hydes? I have no info on John & William's parents or William's line, other than he went west. If this sounds intriging to anyone, let me know. I have more details, unfortunately I haven't been able to verify much.

I guess this took place on Long Island, but I have no verifying info. They were married in Hempstead Village ca 1773. William and Caroline had 12 children. I also have data on William's parents but it is suspect. Can anyone verify any of this.

I spent a few hours trying to research a connection, however, the closest thing appears to be South Carolina before 1850. Henry Hyde indicates that he was born there in approximately 1823. By the year 1846, he is in Coweta County, Georgia, and marries Martha Lyn or Marthalyn Benton. My family seems to stay there or at least the direct line... this would be their child James H. Hyde and his first daughter Alice Dorcie/Dorsie Hyde who married into my Dial line. I won't bother you with all the details, however, if you have an idea about Henry (possibly middle name Lunsden/Lumsden) Hyde in South Carolina we might have a connection... Thanks again for an action packed, informative, super message! deb-

My husband (Larry Lane Cates) is his Ggrandchild, and grandson of Ollie Victoria Hyde, she was married to Archie Garmon, and son of Katherine Louise Garmon, married to Carlton Robert Cates. We to have been dilligently searching for the Hyde family ancestors. From research of others, we discovered they were from Pickens Co., SC, starting with Bennet Hyde (altho' we have seen it spelled Hide) b. abt 1772 married to Penelope ? had one son named Ansell W. Hyde married to Elizabeth Holland, Ansell and Elizabeth moved from Pickens Co., SC to Anderson SC, on the 1870 census, (Bennet Hyde was listed on the 1870 Pickens Co., Central twnsp, Wahalla post office @ age 98 alone) I can find no records of burial. Ancell then moved to Forsyth Co., GA., about 1875....Waddie Thomas Hyde was born 1845 in Pickens Co., SC and died Jan 13, 1914, (! he served in the civil war Co. K SC 22 INF, CSA), He was married three times, two recorded in Atlanta National archives,Waddie Thomas (his wife), and his dtr. Ollie, and her husband Archie Garmon are all buried in the Old Warsaw Church Cemetary, in the OCee Community, Norcross, old Milton Co., GA. area. Waddie Thomas' headstone is a civil war marker, and his wife beside him is an unmarked site.Do any of these people shake a leaf on your tree? Have aLOT of decendant info' if you recognize any of this family., Allen Hyde in Forsyth Co., GA, was Waddie Thomas' bro. on that same 1910 census....if that was helpful at all....you can reach me at tonniec@alltel.net. Thank you in advance for any thing on these people. Tonnie and Larry Cates of Dawsonville, GA.

The 13 children's names are as follows, Jane (Ginnie) my grandmother Jack, Joe, Walter, Robinson(Bob), Thomas, Rachael, Annie, Allen, Wilfred, Charles, Harry, James. They are not listed in the correct order of birth. I got this list from Auntie Rachael's daughter Kathleen in 1995 when I visited England, not long after speaking to Kathleen she died age 63 from an asthma attack so I had no one else to ask about the family, living in Australia it is very difficult to obtain some of the info. Kathleen mentioned to me that there was a baby buried in the grave that my mother and sister were buried in at Holy Trinity in GeeCross so I wrote to the Vicar who sent me the info that a Samuel Crabtree was buried there he was in his 80s so I assumed he must be my great great grandfather. Also a Charles Hyde I got the death certificate for Charles and he was 13 months old and was great grandma and grandads child. It was through the death certificate that I found out great grandads first name as I had no info at all. I have heard of Justinius and Curinis I can remember my mother speaking of them and that they went to America. I would be most grateful for any info you may have on the family. I was interested in why they were called Hyde and lived in the town of Hyde it was Auntie Racheal's daughter Kathleen who said that great grandad was a direct decendant of the Earl of Clarendon that got me interested in obtaining more info I had often wondered if there was any connection. My email address is jcrompton@hn.ozemail.com.au Thank you for your response it is greatly appreciated also nice to find a cousin I think most of the side of the family I knew are no longer with us. Sincere Regards Jackie

There were quite a few siblings - I remember my Gransma Elsie (Harry's wife) telling me the Charles and Sarah had 13 children - but hey buried 3 (to make room I expect). I remember a few of the great uncles/aunts - Bob, Allen, Rachel and Ginnie. Also a Walter, though I not sure if he was a cousin. I too remember the stories of the family being descended from Edward Hyde Earl of Clarendon. It was the romantic prospect of a connection with the Hyde of Hyde family that got me researching. The results are not what I expected. Charles Hyde is the grandson of Charles Hyde, born in Dumfries about 1812. The Scots records of that period are very poor. I have not been able to trace any Hyde family in that area, nor much in Scotland. Unless someone knows something that is not in the records the trail goes cold there. The Crabtree side looks a little more interesting. There were the cousins, Justinius and Curinus. I was told that these two had gone off to America and Jusitnius was selling wine to the Indians. Anyway Curinus returned to Hyde in circumstances that weren't much talked about. I can let you have a GEDcom file of the pedigree should you wish. Regards David Hyde

In the 1880 census , after I saw your last query,I found Lewis and Maggie in Pulaski,Pulaski, Il. That is the county and Ullin is the town where my father Albert and his twin Robert were born March 11,1889. I don't know where any of the other kids were born. I don't have much luck find! ing ANYTHING on this machine. As you can guess, I'm a new comer. The parents died when Dad was about 8 or 10? so the info from my Mom is "third hand".
