I guess the good news is that you found no Brittania with a Hyde surname, since my ancestor was a McCain. Volney came to Chateaugay, Franklin County, NY, in the 1850's. He married Sarah Ann Peck and had children Willard, Marietta, John, Harvey, Bert, and Newton. When Volney died in 1880 his son Harvey went to live with his uncle Elbridge (1837- ? ) and Grandmother Lurena/ Loamy Hyde (1808- ? ) of Brighton( Paul Smiths), Franklin County, NY. Elbridge owned his land in the area from 1868 to 1891. Between 1880 and 1891 Elbridge married a woman named Charlotte. After Elbridge sold his property I can't find any trace of him. Census records show Elbridge and Volney were born in Vermont and Lurena/ Loamy was born in New Hampshire. Can anyone help with family?

Surnames: Hyde, Hide, Garmon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4Yk.2ACIB/1107 Message Board Post: Looking for ancestors or decendants of Bennett Hyde born abt. 1770 and his wife Penelope (surname unknown), married about 1810 in Pickens County, SC. Bennet and Penelope Hyde are my husband's 3g maternal prandparents. I was hoping someone could possibly tell me where they are buried, as I have Bennet @ age 98 on 1860 census still living in that area. On census findings, I have found two daughters, and one son. Martha is the only daughter I have found named on any of the census', and Ansell is the only son. Does anyone know the other daughter's name? We are of the lineage of his son named Ansell, whom moved from Pickens Co., SC to Anderson, SC and then to Forsyth County, GA. One of Ansell's son, Waddie Thompson Hyde (also known as WT Hyde, and William Thomas Hyde), is the father to Ollie Victoria Hyde whom married Archie Garmon, in Milton County, GA. She claimed she was full blodded indian (cherokee) whom moved off of the indian reservation in Tenn at her age of five to Georgia, via wagon. Ollie and Archie Garmon's daughter Katherine LOUISE Garmon, married Carlton Robert Cates, and had my husband Larry L Cates. Any info' or leads would GREATLY be appreciated ! And thank you in advance!

Surnames: Hyde Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4Yk.2ACIB/1077.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: This may be related. My great great grandfather was John Hyde (b 1825, d. 1872), listed on his tombstone in Wilmington, DE as "a native of County Cork, Ireland." He emigrated to the US during the Hunger. My uncle had a genealogist do some research, and traced the family to Ballyvourney. John had several brothers, one of whom was Daniel; this info came from the Inchegeelah parish records, which are on the Internet. I was on a tour of Ireland in July 2003, and our bus driver was kind enought to stop in BallyV long enough to take a photo and get a drink. I asked in the little corner store if anyone knew of any Hydes in the area. One lady replied, Oh yes, on the Mulliganish Road. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to find them. There is also a John Hyde listed in BallyV as a sheep breeder. Please contact me if you have any additional info.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4Yk.2ACIB/192.1.2 Message Board Post: Hello again; I just went into another web site, and found one entry that claims Robert Hyde and his wife Jane Underwood were buried at RINGFIELD, on the YORK RIVER, VIRGINIA. I looked for "Ringfield' on my Virginia map, but it was not on there, so it probably doesn't exist anymore. But, it appears that the south end of theYork River runs very close, if not through, Norfolk. This is supposed to be where they were married. So, if all of this is true, Robert and Jane probably stayed in this area during their adult married life. They also could have been buried on their property, or farm (plantation?), as that was a common practice for many years. If you want more details where I found this information, you may E-mail me; pfgard@juno.com pfg

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4Yk.2ACIB/192.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello Faye; No, I am afraid I can't be of any help. It is possible that birth, family, and death records were kept back during that time, but more than likely if they were, they were destroyed during the War of 1812. Also, the 1790, 1800, and 1810 census of Virginia were destroyed during that time, I believe. Sometimes Tax Records are still available. Evidently some of my ancestors had Bible records handed down to them concerning my Hyde/Hansford family, but, with so many children and descendants it is hard telling who ended up with the originals. You might try going into other genealogy web sites for the Hyde and Underwood families, and someone may know where they were buried. It is pure luck though, when these older graves still have a marker. The information I have states that both the Underwood and Hyde families were originally from North Carolina; however, one records shows they were married in Norfolk, VA., in 1734. Maybe they remained there all of their lives, and were buried there. pfg
