Hi Kelley, First, I haven't looked at those families for several years, but I suspect there may be a connection with the John Hunter who was in Augusta county VA in the 1740's. There were a number of Samuel Hunter's in that family. In case you aren't familiar I've appended the Judge Lyman Chalkley's Scots-Irish settlement of Virginia. This is an abstract of all the records in Augusta county up to about 1800. As you know, Augusta county included all of western Virginia at one time and all the way down to the NC line, west to the Mississippi. There was also an Andrew Hunter, Rev Soldied, in the SW Va area.
