I see no obvious relationship of my ancestor, Ephraim Hunter, to those previously mentioned; however, following is a brief biography of him: 1.1.1.4 EPHRAIM HUNTER (b. 15 September 1790, in Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina; d. 30 October 1857) married Mary Elliott (b. 9 March 1797; d. 10 November 1864), son of Robert Hunter & Rebecca Cummings (see below). Ephraim & Mary Elliott were married 29 December 1814, and lived and died at Farmington, Marshall Co TN, and it is believed theirs are the two graves marked by field stones beside the graves of four of their children in Bethbirei Churchyard. He was a Democrat and served many years as a magistrate. He was a farmer, and he had a store located on the north side of the square at Farmington, at the east side of the road running north. He also ran a carding machine and cotton spinner. Children, eleven, b. 1815-1836: James Newton, Nancy Caroline, Robert M., Rebecca Emmaline, Henry Elliott, William Leander, Mary Elizabeth, son (unnamed; b. 14 May 1830; lived two hours), Ephraim Jasper, Thomas Neely, daughter (still-born in 1840). 1.1.1 ROBERT HUNTER (b. 13 April 1749; d. 3 May 1835) married Rebecca Cummings (d. 7 December 1832, aged 72 years). He came from Ireland with his father, John Hunter, when he was ten years old; grew up and married in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where all his children were born; moved to Tennessee about 1805, and in 1810 established his home on Rock Creek in Marshall County (then Bedford Co). He and his wife were charter members of the Bethbirei Presbyterian Church (commonly known as Rock Creek Church), organized 1 June 1810; and they were buried in Bethbirei Churchyard, about two miles from Farmington. Children, eight, b. 1784-1801: Mary, John Ebenezer, Charles Edwin, Ephraim, Priscilla, Eunice, Elihu Whitfield, and Tirzah. Bill Allen [email protected] West Bend, WI
