Hi all, Tom HUNTER was apparently manager of the Dumfries & Galloway Standard Newspaper around the mid to late 1850's. His nephew, John BOWSER,b.1857, went from Australia, when quite young, to work for his uncle at the Newspaper. John returned to Australia in 1880. In 1884 he was editor and part owner with George MAXWELL, of the Wangaratta Chronicle. In 1894 he entered Parliament, became Premier of the State of Victoria in 1917, was knighted in 1927, and retired from politics in 1929. John BOWSER's father was John Henry BOWSER, (c.1822, Darlington, Durham) noted Indian Army Veteran. His mother was Marion, nee HUNTER,(c.1833, Dumfries, Scot.possibly Dalswinton, but not found in the Kirkmahoe PR) sister of Tom HUNTER. John Henry BOWSER & Marion HUNTER were married 1854? Dumfries(?) Other possible sister's for Marion are Janet, Margaret, Anne & Elizabeth who we think married James WIGHT? WHITE? WRIGHT? And another brother, John (c.1847) Other names possibly connected to HUNTER's are J.L.COSTIN, Louise COSTIN, John A. SLOAN, Chas. A. SLOAN, George A. SLOAN, John P. SLOAN, Henry SLOAN, Alan Douglas Stevenson SLOAN, Thomas BOYD, Herbert WELLS, George H. WELLS, John CORRIE???, jnr. I don't have any other information on these other people, except that I have a birthday book that we think was written by Marion BOWSER, nee HUNTER. Any connections? Please? Cathie Melbourne, OZ.
