    1. Re: [HUNTER-L] Hunter families
    2. Nigel Hunter
    3. OK, this is a long shot... As some of the HUNTERs seem to have immigrated into Westmoreland Co, I wonder where the US counties got their names and when? Is it just possible that the people who settled there named them after the counties of their birth? In which case, could Westmoreland Co have been named by immigrants from the county of Westmoreland (subsequently Westmorland - without the 'e') in England? And does anyone know if there's a Kendal in Westmoreland Co - that would be a clincher. My interest is that I can trace my HUNTER ancestry back to the mid-1600s in Kendal, Westmorland, England and I wonder if some of them went to the US. I can't find any evidence of this yet, but I'm ever hopeful!
