    3. Nigel: Thank you, so much for the great maps sites, and history. I do love the history! My husband reminded me that there is a small town in California, in the Imperial Valley (south east corner of the state) named, yes, you guessed it, Westmoreland. I looked it up in a history book I have and it lists two gentlemen, who were early settlers and were part of large cattle operations. So, the town may have been named after them. When I say, early, I mean just after WWI... as the valley is reclaimed desert, and didn't really come into its being until a hugh canal ( All American Canal) was built to bring water from the Colorado River. Do you have the following web site: http:///www.cribbs.net/states/ If not, give it a try... click on PA. then on Geography and so forth. I have just started my search. Fortunately for me, on one side, a great deal has been done and many of my ancestors were here beginning in the early 1600's. This has given me the enthusiasm to work on other lines, i.e., Hunter, Foster, and Scott. I have ancestors from, York, Gloucestershire, Cumberland, and London, that I know of. My knowledge of the UK is very poor, to say the least, so I was really spurred on when I read my Great Grandfather Foster's, opening sentence in his brief autobiography " I was born in York.... that ancient city where Constantine was crowned Emperor of the Romans." I must apologize for my garbled spelling of yesterday... I get in a hurry, and forget to use the spell checker... Thanks again, Nigel for your response. SANDI CA
