    1. [HUNTER-L] Hunter families of Alexandria, VA environs from Ayr, Scotland
    2. Doug Linton
    3. Hunter Hunters:-- I'm interested in discussion of the various Hunter's of Alexandria Va and Vienna (Ayr Hill originally). I'm inclined to believe that all of them are somehow related. I've got a fair amount of data pieces, but no grand links between all of them. Certainly evidence of property changing hands, rentals, and marrying into families doing business with each other, and common third parties. Hunter folk that I'm "playing with" include: --William Hunter "Sr." He married 2nd Christina "Kitty"Arell in 1783 in Alexandria. --William Hunter "Jr." (1731-1792) Some say the two are father/son; others say that distinction was arbitrary just to keep the two Williams of Alexandria who were contemporaries, but not known to be related, apart. I can't preclude that these two are really the same person...(?) It would seem strange for a 62 year old man to be marrying in 1783 for a second time; even stranger for his dad to being so...Hmmm? --John Hunter of Hunter Shipyard in Alexandria, VA (1760 Irvine, Ayr, Scotland - 1826 Alexandria, VA). I descend from this fellow. --John Hunter of Hunter's Mill of the Oakton, Va (Hunter's Mill Rd). --John Hunter of Ayr Hill, VA (Now Vienna, VA) (1746-1815) I'd really like to exhange data, ideas, evidence, references, etc. with folk working the ancestry of these families. I traveled to Ayr, Scotland last year and got some info on what I'm most certain were the parents of my ancestor John Hunter. They were John Hunter and Margaret Morrice (evolved into Morris). Again, it is my suspicion that many, if not all of the Hunters above are related in some way or another. The descendants of most of these men (and their spouses) are fairly well documented. I've only focussed one those that are from my ancestor John Hunter (1760-1826). Hope to hear from you if you have read this far... :-) Doug Linton <[email protected]> -----Original Message----- From: Bobby Smith <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, February 11, 2000 12:48 PM Subject: Re: [HUNTER-L] Hunter families >Alexandria, VA was established by the Alexanders for which it was named.
