We may be on to something here! In Humphrey's memoirs he states that his paternal grandfather was from Glasgow. his maternal grandfather was from Brest (Brittany/ present day France.)I have heard but been unable to prove that the Hunter brothers mother was Agnes. there is record of an Agnes hunter purchasing land here (Mecklenburg County) during the said time of immigration. it is stated in the memoirs that she is buried in the Poplar Tent vicinity. The John Hunter that everybody is referring to is buried in Steele Creek Presbyterian Churchyard. My main problem has been the vast date differences between the "brothers" According to the memoirs, Humphrey's mother came with him after the death of her husband in Ireland. Henry (my ancestor) stayed to marry Martha Sloan and had one child, Humphrey before coming to Mecklenburg county. this name, Humphrey may be a key as it reoccurs often. there is also a name "Stanhope" that seems to reoccur. (Perhaps a family surname from the past) -----Original Message----- From: Robert Blahut [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, February 11, 2000 1:14 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [HUNTER-L] What Humphrey says Conrad, I saw your post on GenForum and answered it, then noticed this on my own Hunter-L e-mail. Since I dont know how often you check the other, I'll repeat it here. Your Humphrey mentioned a grandfather from Glascow who married a French woman. Are there any details? I am looking for a grandson of John and Agnes Hunter who probably married a French woman. The dates are off a little but you never know. My John and Agnes were from just south of Glascow. Thanks for any scrap! Jeanne Hunter Blahut
