    3. Hello, I'm not researching the HUNTER name, but I came across this article and thought it might help someone to find a long lost relative. I don't have any more information than what is printed here. Linda Wood Parrish Rootsweb Sponsor from The Village Messenger, Fayetteville (Lincoln County), Tennessee, Vol. II, No. 10, May 12, 1824: NOTICE. On the 25th day of November, 1822. the body of a man was found in Cane creek, about four miles distant from the place at which it empties into Elk river. The person found was recognized by a number of individuals, to be a man who had been for several days previous, in Fayetteville and its vicinity. The circumstances which led to the search for and discovery of the body were these: A small grey nag was seen by the subscriber strolling near the bank of said creek—a pair of saddlebags were found at the place where the road leading from Fayetteville to Columbia crosses Cane creek, which immediately led to the suspicion that some person had been drowned in attempting to cross the creek. A number of the neighbors collected and after searching some time the body was discovered in the creek a short distance below where said road crosses the creek. A coroner’s inquest was holden over the body, who took a schedule of the property found about the deceased. He had in his pocket a gold watch, and in his saddlebags and pocket book a quantity of money in notes on a great variety of banks and other associations, together with a quantity of change tickets, amounting in all to about 3000 dollars. There were also in his saddlebags promissory notes upon different persons, amounting to about 500 dollars. There was likewise found in his saddlebags a quantity of s_____g silk and sewing needles. He had but a small quantity of clothing and that of inferior quality. There was found about him a certificate purporting to be signed by his father* & mother, setting forth the year in which the deceased was born, by which it appears he was, at the time of his death, about twenty-five years of age; also a number of letters were found about the deceased, addressed to Robert HUNTER at Pittsburg, by Sally HUNTER, Polly HUNTER, Robert HUNTER and Olive HUNTER, dated in the years 1818 and 1819 and post marked “Ira, Vermont.” The property found about the deceased is in the possession of the subscriber, living on Cane creek, Lincoln county, Tennessee. SAMUEL BUCHANAN May 10, 1824 *The surname of the father and mother in the certificate above mentioned was HUNTER, but their given names are not recollected, and the certificate having been deposited in the hands of a gentleman now absent, cannot be referred to.
