My John Hunter born 1828- or thereabouts- emigrated from Ireland (originally from Glasgow Scotland area - left for religious reasons). He ended up in Ottawa Canada area in a small town called Riceville. He was still there in 1840's, possibly a bachelor, as a letter I have which he wrote, did not indicate wife or children. Did mention good hunting though! Anyway, I don't know of him entering the US, and most of that part of the family is still in Canada -- Ottawa to Toronto area.
