Jim Hunter, Utah.. My ggrandfather was William Clayborne Hunter born in Hazlehurst Mississippi. His father was Andrew J. and his gfather was also Andrew. On the census in Miss, he claimed his father came from Scotland. We found a listing for Andrew Hunter living in a boarding house in Liberty Co. MO as a single person, In the 1860's Andrew J was in Miss and married to a Sally P.(MNU) and William Clayborne was born in 1868. From there Williams family, wife and 3 kids, moved to Grant Parish LA..where my grandfather was married for the first time..I have very little information on this other than word of mouth and some cenesus records dating these events..Do you have any knowledge of this set of Hunters. Our branch settled in AR and is buried there..in Ashley Co. Would appreciate any info that you can supply. You can email me at pjmoyer@seark.net ..thanks, PJ ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Hunter <jimghunter@sisna.com> To: <HUNTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 03, 2002 10:19 AM Subject: [HUNTER-L] Martha Jane Hunter - b. 1860 > Melba (et al), > > The Martha Jane Hunter, b. 1 Apr 1860 in Palo Pinto County I have is the > daughter of Abraham Mark and Sarah Ann Koen Hunter. Peggy, The census is not always correct. The information is an opinion given to the census taker by someone in the family, not necessarily the head of the house, and none of which is documented. In a similar vane, my grandfather told me that our Hunter's were from Scotland also. He was wrong. I checked in MO, and there is no Liberty County, there is a town of Liberty in Clay County. I have several Andrew J. Hunters in my data, but none directly fit your information. That was a very common name, seems like Andy Jackson was a real popular President. Our line of Hunters are in the states you mention, but not with the names given. Sorry I could not be of more assistance. Bill Hunter who reads this list generally may be able to shed some light on your Hunter quest. He is our resident family historian. Thanks.
